Oilers Fall in Overtime to Urbana

The University of Findlay women's basketball team fell 81-77 in overtime to Urbana University on Wednesday, Dec. 19 in Urbana, Ohio.

The Oilers found themselves down 37-34 at the half, but held a three-point lead at 66-63 with only 30 seconds to play in the game.  Urbana's Ciara Geiger however drilled a three pointer with only eight ticks left to send the game into overtime.

The Blue Knights dominated the beginning of the overtime period as they quickly built a nine point lead in the first three minutes of the extra session.  The Oilers would then close the gap, but ran out of time in the end as they dropped to 6-3 on the season.

The Oilers shot 39.4 percent (28-of-71) from the floor while the Blue Knights connected on 41.2 percent (28-of-68) of their shot attempts.  Findlay also hit 11-of-27 (40.7%) shot attempts from behind the three point line while Urbana splashed home 12-of-28 (42.9%) triple tries.

Senior forward Kayla Brown led the team with 21 points on 7-of-17 shooting.  Brown hit 5-of-10 three point attempts and also added a season-high ten rebounds for her first double-double of the season.

Junior guard Ashley Andrews added 13 points while freshman forward Kelsey Lewis scored a career-high ten points, hitting all five of her field goal attempts.

Geiger led the Blue Knights with 22 points and 11 rebounds while DeVonyea Johnson and Kate Francisco added 18 and 17 points, respectively.

The Oilers will host Northwestern Ohio in their next game, which is scheduled to take place on Dec. 29 at 1 p.m. in Croy Gymnasium.
