Oilers Hold Off Warriors, Win 90-84 in Overtime

The University of Findlay women's basketball team held on for a 90-84 win over Wayne State University in overtime on Saturday, Jan. 5 in Detroit, Mich.

Findlay held a 75-73 lead late in the second half, but Wayne State's Talisha Bridges hit a running one-handed jumper with five seconds left to send the game into overtime.  The Oilers then built a cushion during the overtime period and claimed a tough road victory.

The Oilers, who improved to 9-3 on the year with a 6-2 record in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC), shot 41.9 percent (26-of-62) from the floor and made 34-of-51 (66.7%) shot attempts from the free throw line in the win.

Senior forward Kayla Brown led the way with 25 points on 7-of-17 shooting.  Brown also hit 10-of-11 attempts from the free throw line and is now 15 points shy of reaching the 1,000-point plateau for her career.

Senior forward Tai Dotson added a double-double with 17 points and ten rebounds while sophomore forward Lacey Kessler continued her strong play with 15 points, eight rebounds and three steals off the bench.

Senior guard Kendra Elam also reached double figures with ten points in the victory.

The Warriors, who held a 58-42 advantage on the boards, were led by Bridges' 25 points.

The Oilers will be back at home next week to host Ohio Dominican University on Jan. 10.  The contest is scheduled to tip at 8 p.m. inside Croy Gymnasium.
