#18 Oilers Season Comes to an End with 63-58 Loss to Warriors in the NCAA Tournament
The University of Findlay women's basketball team, ranked 18th in the nation, saw their season come to a close in the first round of the NCAA Division II Tournament as they dropped a 63-58 decision to Wayne State University on Friday, March 15 in Ashland, Ohio.
The Oilers shot only 35.1 percent from the floor, but did knock down 5-of-12 (41.7%) shot attempts from behind the three point line. The Warriors meanwhile connected on 42.3 percent (22-of-52) of their field goal attempts and blocked nine shots in the game.
Freshman forward Margaret Wuebker led the team with 14 points and seven rebounds while senior forward Kayla Brown, who fouled out of the game with just over three minutes to play, finished with 12 points and six boards.
Brown wrapped up her career ranked eighth all-time in scoring with 1,277 points. The first team all-region pick is also ranked fifth all-time in career three pointers made (138) and sixth all-time in career steals (199).
The Mt. Blanchard, Ohio native and first team all-conference pick racked up 523 points during her final season with Findlay, the third highest single season output in Oilers history.
Senior guard Kendra Elam and sophomore forward Lacey Kessler added eight points apiece while senior forward Tai Dotson chipped in seven points and six boards.
Senior guard Laura Piehl, who has battled back from multiple knee injuries, ended her career with a steal and an assist in the game. She is ranked fourth all-time at Findlay with 1,355 career points.
The Warriors were led by a trio of players who scored 15 points apiece in the game. Juanita Cochran had her way in the paint with 15 points, 15 rebounds and six blocks while Lena Thomas and Phaebre Colbert each produced 15 points as well.
Thomas, who came into the game averaging 2.4 points per contest, hit five three pointers in the game after hitting only 11 total triples on the season.
The Oilers completed the 2012-13 season with a 24-6 record. Their 24 wins this season were the most they have ever had at the NCAA Division II level.
