Oilers Win 1st Game 75-68 Over Lakers

The University of Findlay women's basketball team kicked off their season with a 75-68 win over Mercyhurst University on Saturday, Nov. 16 in Erie, Pa.

The Oilers forced 31 turnovers in the game and came away with 21 steals.  They also shot 41.3 percent (26-of-63) from the floor and canned 43.8 percent (7-of-16) of their three point tries.

Freshman guard Karli Bonar came off the bench to lead the Oilers with 20 points in 19 minutes of action.  She made 6-of-9 shot attempts from the field and drained 4-of-7 three point tries.

Senior guard Ashley Andrews reached double figures with 11 points to go along with five steals while junior forward Lacey Kessler registered 11 points, four rebounds and four steals in the win.

Senior guard Karli Beasley stuffed the stat sheet with eight points, six rebounds and four steals while junior guard Nikki Gunning had eight points, two rebounds and two assists.

The Lakers, who shot 39.3 percent (24-of-61) from the floor, were led by Natalie Piaggesi's 22 points and 13 rebounds.

The Oilers will now have some time off before hosting the University of Northwestern Ohio on Nov. 30 at 2 p.m. in Croy Gymnasium.
