Women's Basketball Comes Up Short at FSU

The University of Findlay women's basketball team dropped their second straight game with a 74-62 loss against Ferris State University on Thursday, Jan. 2 in Big Rapids, Mich.

The Oilers jumped out to a 29-22 lead at the break, but the Bulldogs went on a 13-0 run to start the second half and regain control of the game.  Ferris State would then open up their lead to as many as 11 points in the first ten minutes of the final period before the Oilers went on a run to get back in it.

Down three at 51-48 with 6:54 remaining in the game, the Oilers once again fell victim to a Bulldog run as Ferris State went on an 11-0 run to end the Oilers hope of pulling off a road win.

The Oilers, who fell to 5-4 on the season with a 2-3 record in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play, shot only 32.4 percent (22-of-68) from the floor in the game.  They also connected on a mere 23.7 percent (9-of-38) of their three point tries and were out-rebounded by a 44-33 margin.

Junior guard Ciara Geiger and junior forward Lacey Kessler led the way with 12 points apiece while sophomore forward Margaret Wuebker also reached double figures with ten points.

Freshman guard Karli Bonar chipped in nine points while junior guard Kristin Klausing had five assists.

The Bulldogs, who shot 47.4 percent (27-of-57) from the field, received 28 points from Dena Droste.

April Watson added 16 points and seven boards off the bench for Ferris State as well.

The Oilers will be back in action again on Saturday when they face Grand Valley State University at 1 p.m. in Allendale, Mich.
