Lakers Defeat Oilers 77-68

The University of Findlay women's basketball team dropped a 77-68 decision to Grand Valley State University on Jan. 4 in Allendale, Mich.

The Oilers, who fell to 5-5 on the year with a 2-4 record in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play with the loss, shot only 32.8 percent (22-of-67) from the floor while the Lakers connected on 60.9 percent (28-of-46) of their field goal attempts.

Findlay forced the Lakers into 21 turnovers and came away with 11 steals, but the Lakers were deadly from behind the three point line in the game as they saw 10-of-17 (47.8%) of their long range shots fall through the net.

Senior guard Karli Beasley led the team with a career-high 13 points while senior forward Kaleigh Kenny registered a season-high ten points to go along with four rebounds.

Senior guard Ashley Andrews added nine points while sophomore forward Margaret Wuebker posted nine points and three boards.

Junior guard Nikki Gunning came off the bench to provide seven points, junior guard Ciara Geiger added five points and freshman guard Karli Bonar had five points, three rebounds and two assists.

Kat LaPrairie led the Lakers with 22 points, hitting six three pointers in the game.

Bailey Cairnduff contributed 14 points and eight rebounds while Dani Crandall posted eight points, 12 rebounds and seven assists.

The Oilers will return home to host Saginaw Valley State University in their next game, which is scheduled to take place on Jan. 9 at 6 p.m.
