Women's Basketball Home Against SVSU/WSU
The University of Findlay women's basketball team will host Saginaw Valley State University and Wayne State University this week in Croy Gymnasium. The Oilers will play the Cardinals on Thursday (1/9) at 6 p.m. and then take on the Warriors this Saturday (1/11) at 1 p.m.

Series Information
The Oilers currently hold a 14-9 advantage in the all-time series against Saginaw Valley State dating back to the 1978-79 campaign, which saw the Cardinals win by an 88-48 margin.
The Oilers won their regular season contest against the Cardinals last season by a score of 70-61 and then claimed another win against them in the first round of the GLIAC Tournament by a margin of 69-57.
In their regular season contest, Kayla Brown led the Oilers with 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting while Lacey Kessler contributed 16 points and four assists off the bench. Tai Dotson also had a stellar game for the Oilers as she recorded 14 points, eight rebounds, three assists, two steals and block.
In their tournament win, the Oilers shot 50 percent (26-of-52) from the floor and drilled 7-of-16 (43.8%) shot attempts from behind the three point line.
Tai Dotson registered 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting to lead the team while Margaret Wuebker and Kendra Elam scored 12 apiece. Wuebker added six rebounds while Elam hit four triples in the game.
The Oilers hold a 19-16 advantage in the all-time series against Wayne State dating back to the 1990-91 campaign when they came out on the winning end by a score of 57-48.
The two programs faced each other three times last season, with Findlay winning two of those contests. They claimed a 90-84 win in overtime over the Warriors during the regular season and beat Wayne State by a score of 67-60 to reach the finals of the GLIAC Tournament. Wayne State then knocked the Oilers out of the NCAA Tournament in the first round by a score of 63-58.
Kayla Brown led the Oilers in their overtime win over the Warriors with 25 points. Tai Dotson added a double-double with 17 points and ten rebounds while Lacey Kessler contributed 15 points, eight rebounds and three steals off the bench.
Kayla Brown once again led the Oilers to a win over Wayne State in the semifinals of the GLIAC Tournament, this time scoring 23 points to pace the squad. Karli Beasley came off the bench to score 12 while Kristin Klausing had six assists and five steals.
In their NCAA Tournament loss to the Warriors, Margaret Wuebker led the team with 14 points and seven rebounds while Kayla Brown, who fouled out of the game with just over three minutes to play, finished with 12 points and six boards.
Findlay
The University of Findlay women's basketball team dropped a 77-68 decision to Grand Valley State University on Jan. 4 in Allendale, Mich.
The Oilers, who fell to 5-5 on the year with a 2-4 record in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play with the loss, shot only 32.8 percent (22-of-67) from the floor while the Lakers connected on 60.9 percent (28-of-46) of their field goal attempts.
Findlay forced the Lakers into 21 turnovers and came away with 11 steals, but the Lakers were deadly from behind the three point line in the game as they saw 10-of-17 (47.8%) of their long range shots fall through the net.
Karli Beasley led the team with a career-high 13 points while Kaleigh Kenny registered a season-high ten points to go along with four rebounds.
Ashley Andrews added nine points while Margaret Wuebker posted nine points and three boards.
Nikki Gunning came off the bench to provide seven points, Ciara Geiger added five points and Karli Bonar had five points, three rebounds and two assists.

Saginaw Valley State
The Cardinals have posted a 6-3 record so far with a 4-2 mark in conference play. They come into the game leading the league in scoring at 78.4 points per contest.
Kristen Greene leads four Cardinal players in double figures with a scoring average of 17.6 points per outing.
Kayla Womack (14.7), Katelyn Carriere (13.6) and Samantha Zirzow (12.1) are also averaging in double figures on the season.

Wayne State
The Warriors are 9-1 on the year with a perfect 6-0 mark in GLIAC competition. The team is averaging 77.7 points per game and grabbing 40.2 rebounds per contest.
Shareta Brown is off to a great start for Wayne State and sports averages of 22.2 points, 11.1 rebounds and 3.4 steals per game.
Des Lavita-Stephens and Imari Redfield are also averaging in double figures at 12.1 and 10.2 points per game, respectively.

The Oilers are averaging 11.4 steals per game this season, the second best mark in the GLIAC and the 30th highest total in the nation. They also are ranked second in the league by forcing their opponent into 20.8 turnovers per contest.
Individually, senior guard Ashley Andrews, junior forward Lacey Kessler and senior guard Karli Beasley are all tied for 11th in the conference in steals per game at 1.7 per contest.
Making Shots
Sophomore forward Margaret Wuebker has been shooting the ball well and ranks tenth in the league with a 50.6 percent shooting clip. Junior forward Lacey Kessler is right behind Wuebker and ranks 11th with a shooting percentage of 50.0.
Freebies
Junior forward Lacey Kessler has been doing a lot of damage from the free throw line this season, making 5.0 shot attempts from the charity stripe per game. Her total makes per contest is the fourth highest total in the GLIAC. Kessler is also shooting 84.9 percent from the line this year, the eighth best mark in the league.
As a team, the Oilers are canning 74.6 percent of their shots from the charity stripe, the sixth best mark in the GLIAC.
Efficient Scoring
Junior forward Lacey Kessler is making the most of her playing time this season and is averaging a team-high 12.1 points per game in only 17.1 minutes per contest. Her scoring average is the 23rd best mark in the league.
Lighting Up the Scoreboard
Findlay is averaging 72.2 points per game on the year, the seventh best total in the GLIAC.
Raining 3's
The Oilers are shooting 32.9 percent from behind the three point line this season, the seventh best shooting clip in the GLIAC. They are also connecting on 8.1 three pointers per game, which is the highest mark in the conference. The total is also the 15th highest in the nation.
Freshman guard Karli Bonar is connecting on 2.5 triple tries per game this year, which ranks first in the GLIAC. Her 36.8 percent shooting clip from long range is the 18th highest mark in the conference.
Bonar set Ohio state records for most three pointers made in a season (110) and most made triples in a career (350) during her time at Shadyside High School.
In the Oilers 87-54 win over Northwestern Ohio on Nov. 30, the Oilers canned a season-high 15 three pointers and attempted a school record 42 triple tries.
Passing the Rock
The Oilers are ranked sixth in the conference in assists per game with 14.4 per contest. Junior guard Kristin Klausing is dishing out 2.7 assists per contest to lead the team while senior guard Ashley Andrews ranks second on the squad with 2.5 dimes per game.
Swatting Shots
Sophomore forward Kelsey Lewis ranks 11th in the league in blocked shots per game, swatting an average of 0.9 per contest.
Getting Buckets
Junior guard Ciara Geiger has proven she has the ability to fill up the basket. Geiger is in her first season with the Oilers after transferring from Urbana University, where she scored 995 points in her first two collegiate seasons. The Ft. Wayne, Ind. native has now racked up 1,049 career points in her collegiate career.
Reaching the 90-Point Plateau
The Oilers have scored 90 or more points 64 times since the 1978-79 season and sport a 63-1 (.984) record in those games. Their only loss came at the hands of Wilmington, who defeated the Oilers by a score of 110-98 in 1985.
GLIAC Tournament
The Oilers have appeared in the GLIAC Tournament five times in their history. They sport a 3-5 record in tournament play.
Winning GLIAC South Division Titles
The Oilers have won two out the last four GLIAC South Division titles (2009-10, 2010-11) and as a program, have captured championships in 1998, 1999, 2000, 2010 and 2011.
Preseason GLIAC Poll
The Oilers were picked to finish second in the South Division of the GLIAC this season according to the annual preseason poll, which was released on Nov. 7.
The Oilers received a total of 177 votes and ten first place votes in the poll. They fell one vote shy of the top spot in the division, which is held by Ashland University with 178 votes. The Eagles also received 13 first place votes and are the defending NCAA Division II National Champions.
Findlay finished the 2012-13 campaign with a 24-6 record. They were ranked 20th in the nation in the final poll and reached the NCAA Division II National Tournament for only the second time in school history.
Preseason All-GLIAC
Junior guard Ciara Geiger, a transfer from Urbana University, and sophomore forward Margaret Wuebker each were honored on the preseason all-conference squads. Geiger was voted first team all-conference while Wuebker earned a spot on the second team.
Geiger earned all-region honors last year for the Blue Knights after averaging 18.4 points per game. The Great Midwest Athletic Conference Player of the Year racked up a total of 995 points during her two years with Urbana and will be counted on to provide offensive firepower for the Oilers this season.
Wuebker made 26 starts for the Oilers last season as a true freshman, averaging 5.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per game.
