Chargers Rally to Defeat Oilers

Box Score

The University of Findlay women's basketball let one slip away on Monday evening in Croy Gymnasium as they fell 66-61 to Hillsdale College.

The Oilers, who built a double digit lead several times during the second half, found themselves up 49-41 with just over ten minutes to play in the game.  The Chargers however dominated the next six minutes as they went on a 16-0 run to take a 57-49 lead with 4:47 remaining.

Down eight points, the Oilers fought their way back and got within one point of the Chargers when sophomore forward Margaret Wuebker hit a jumper in the lane with only 55 seconds remaining.  Down one at 62-61, the Oilers fouled and Hillsdale made both free throw attempts.  A three point try by junior guard Ciara Geiger then hit every part of the rim, but did not drop down as the Oilers chance to tie fell short.  Hillsdale would add two more points from the charity stripe for the final margin of the game.

Findlay shot 35 percent (21-of-60) from the floor while the Chargers connected on 48.9 percent (23-of-47) of their shot attempts.  The Oilers did force 27 turnovers and came away with 12 steals in the game while the Chargers held a 40-33 advantage on the boards.

Geiger led the Oilers with 13 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals while Wuebker turned in ten points, four rebounds, three steals and two assists in only 18 minutes of action due to foul trouble.

Sophomore forward Kelsey Lewis had a good game for Findlay off the bench, scoring nine points to go along with five rebounds.

Junior guard Nikki Gunning chipped in seven points while senior forward Kaleigh Kenny registered six points and four boards in the loss.

The Chargers received 18 points, 15 rebounds, four blocks and three steals from Megan Fogt in the game.

The Oilers will be back at home on Thursday when they host Ohio Dominican University at 6 p.m.
