Oilers Kick Off Season at Cal (Pa.)

The University of Findlay Oilers women's basketball team will begin regular season play against the California University (Pa.) on Nov. 25.  The non-conference contest is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. in California, Pa.

Series Information

The Oilers and Vulcans have never met before on the hardwood.

Findlay

The Oilers fell 68-61 to Indiana Wesleyan in an exhibition game on Nov. 20 in Croy Gymnasium in their final tune-up before the regular season.

The Oilers shot 46.3 percent (19-of-41) from the floor while the Wildcats connected on 49.1 percent (26-of-53) from the field in the game. The Wildcats also drained ten three pointers and recorded 21 assists on their 21 made field goals.

Senior guard Ciara Geiger led the Oilers with 12 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals while junior forward Margaret Wuebker recorded ten points and four boards.

Senior guard Kristin Klausing had eight points, three rebounds and three assists while senior guard Nikki Gunning contributed eight points and two rebounds in the loss.

Cal (Pa.)

The Vulcans are undefeated at 4-0 on the season and have recorded some impressive wins over ranked opponents. Included in their four wins is a 78-68 win over 18th-ranked West Liberty State and a 76-48 win over 6th-ranked Edinboro.

Hope Mancini leads the team with a 15.8 points per game average while Laurel Lindsay is averaging 13.3 points, 6.0 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game.

Aignee' Freeland and Lauren Hippo are also scoring in double figures at 11.3 and 11.0 points per game, respectively. Freeland is also grabbing a team-high 9.0 rebounds per contest.

Preseason All-GLIAC

Junior forward Margaret Wuebker and senior guard Ciara Geiger each earned preseason all-conference accolades for the Oilers this season. Wuebker was tabbed a preseason first team all-conference pick while Geiger earned second team honors.

Wuebker was a second team all-league pick last year for the Oilers, who finished the 2013-14 campaign with a 12-14 record. During her sophomore season, Wuebker posted a team-high 12.7 points and 5.6 rebounds per contest.

Geiger meanwhile averaged 10.2 points and 3.8 rebounds per game for Findlay last season.

Scoring in Bunches

Senior guard Ciara Geiger has had a knack for putting the ball in the hole during her collegiate career as she has racked up 1,259 points. Geiger scored 995 points for Urbana University during her first two collegiate seasons before transferring to Findlay last season. In her first season with the Oilers, Geiger scored 264 points.

Balanced Attack

The Oilers return their top five scorers from last season. Junior forward Margaret Wuebker led the team in scoring at 12.7 points per game while senior guard Ciara Geiger posted 10.2 points per contest.

The Oilers will also welcome back sophomore guard Karli Bonar, who averaged 8.4 points per game last year. Senior forward Lacey Kessler returns after averaging 8.0 points per game while senior guard Nikki Gunning also averaged 8.0 points per contest last year for Findlay.

Reaching the 90-Point Plateau

The Oilers have scored 90 or more points 64 times since the 1978-79 season and sport a 63-1 (.984) record in those games.  Their only loss came at the hands of Wilmington, who defeated the Oilers by a score of 110-98 in 1985.

GLIAC Tournament

The Oilers have appeared in the GLIAC Tournament five times in their history.  They sport a 3-5 record in tournament play.

Winning GLIAC South Division Titles

The Oilers have won five GLIAC South Division titles since joining the league in 1997. They have captured championships in 1998, 1999, 2000, 2010 and 2011.
