Women's Basketball to Host Northwood, Lake Superior St.

The Oilers women's basketball team will kick off Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play at home this week against Northwood and Lake Superior State. The Oilers will host the Timberwolves on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. before welcoming the Lakers to town on Saturday for a 1 p.m. contest in Croy Gymnasium.

Series Information

The Oilers hold a 15-4 advantage in the all-time series against Northwood dating back to the 1997-98 campaign when Findlay came away with a 73-51 victory.

Findlay defeated Northwood by a score of 84-76 last season in Midland, Mich. behind 18 points from Lacey Kessler.

The Oilers shot 51.9 percent (27-of-52) from the floor and forced 19 turnovers in the game.  Findlay also shot well from behind the three point line, connecting on 43.8 percent (7-of-16) of their attempts from long range.  They also held a 36-22 advantage in points in the paint and their reserves out-scored Northwood's bench players by a 43-21 margin.

Margaret Wuebker also reached double figures with 14 points to go along with five rebounds and two steals while Nikki Gunning recorded nine points and three boards.

The Timberwolves were led by Sarah Susan, who poured in a game-high 25 points.

The Oilers trail by a 14-9 margin in the all-time series against the Lakers dating back to the 1985-86 campaign when Lake Superior State smacked Findlay by a score of 88-61.

Findlay came away with an 88-72 win over the Lakers last season in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. behind 18 points from Margaret Wuebker.

The Oilers shot 52.4 percent (33-of-63) from the floor and connected on 36.4 percent (8-of-22) of their three point attempts in the win.  They also forced 20 turnovers and recorded 21 assists in the game.

Nikki Gunning came off the bench to provide 14 points, three rebounds and three assists while Ashley Andrews and Kristin Klausing registered 11 points apiece.

Raven Trammell led the Lakers with 21 points and seven boards off the bench.

Findlay

The Oilers claimed a 93-48 win over Michigan-Dearborn on Monday, Dec. 1 in Croy Gymnasium to remain undefeated on the season with a 3-0 record.

The Oilers shot 50 percent (34-of-68) from the floor and canned 15-of-30 (50%) of their three point tries. They also recorded 29 assists and made 14 steals in the victory.

Nikki Gunning led the way with 12 points off the bench. Gunning drilled 4-of-7 attempts from three point range and also added two assists.

Haley Horstman had 11 points, four rebounds, three steals and three assists while Karli Bonar had 11 points, two rebounds and two assists.

Shannon Zajec had a great game for Findlay off the pine as she contributed 11 points, four rebounds and a pair of assists while Margaret Wuebker recorded nine points, three assists and two steals.

Kelsey Lewis chipped in eight points off the bench and Alyssa Grevenkamp snatched a career-high eight rebounds in the game.

Northwood

The Timberwolves sport a 2-2 record on the season and are coming off of a 71-52 loss at home to Wisconsin-Parkside.

Gabrielle Rivette and Lauren Robak lead the team in scoring as they are both averaging 12.5 points per contest.

Jordyn Nurenberg and Sarah Susan are close to averaging in double figures on a nightly basis with 9.8 and 9.5 points per game, respectively.

Lake Superior State

The Lakers are 3-0 on the year and have been led by Stephanie Fisher, who is averaging 20.0 points per game.

Kandace Crittendon is putting up 10.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game while April LaCross is averaging 8.7 points and 7.3 rebounds per contest.

The Lakers are holding their opponents to a 37.8 percent shooting clip on the year and are also recording 9.7 steals per game.

Putting Points on the Board

The Oilers are averaging 86.0 points per game this season, the third best mark in the GLIAC. They have done so with a balanced offensive attack that includes nine players averaging more than 5.5 points per game.

Junior forward Margaret Wuebker leads the group and is averaging 12.3 points per game. Senior guard Nikki Gunning and freshman guard Haley Horstman are also averaging in double figures on a nightly basis at 10.7 and 10.0 points per game, respectively.

The Oilers have eight different players reach double figures in a game this season.

Hot Shooting

The Oilers have come out on fire in their first three games as they are shooting 53.5 percent from the floor as a team, which is the second best mark in the GLIAC  Junior forward Margaret Wuebker leads the team and is also leading the conference with a 78.6 percent shooting clip.

Grand Theft

The Oilers are averaging 12.3 steals per game, which is the second best total in the GLIAC.  Freshman guard Haley Horstman leads the team and ranks eighth in the conference with 2.3 steals per contest.

Getting to the Line

The Oilers have made more free throws than their opponents have attempted this year and are shooting 67.5 percent from the charity stripe.  Findlay has connected on 52 free throws this season while their opponents have only reached the line 40 times.

Scoring in Bunches

Senior guard Ciara Geiger has had a knack for putting the ball in the hole during her collegiate career as she has racked up 1,281 points. Geiger scored 995 points for Urbana University during her first two collegiate seasons before transferring to Findlay last season. In her first season with the Oilers, Geiger scored 264 points.
