Oilers Back on the Road at Ashland/Lake Erie

The Oilers will hit the road to battle Ashland (1/22) and Lake Erie (1/24) this week. The Ashland game is scheduled to tip at 5:30 p.m. and the game against Lake Erie will begin at 1 p.m.

Series Information

The Oilers trail 24-16 in the all-time series against Ashland dating back to the 1990-91 campaign when the Eagles were victorious by a score of 58-42.

The Eagles swept the Oilers last season, winning 80-55 in Findlay and 88-80 in Ashland.

In the home loss, the Oilers only shot 25.4 percent (17-of-67) from the floor in the game while Ashland hit on 58.8 percent (30-of-51) of their shot attempts.

Margaret Wuebker led Findlay with 21 points on 7-of-16 shooting.  She also added four rebounds, three steals and a block.

In the loss at Ashland, Wuebker led the Oilers with 19 points and six rebounds while Nikki Gunning had 12 points, five rebounds, three steals and two assists.

Lacey Kessler also reached double figures with 11 points to go along with five rebounds in 13 minutes off the bench.

The Oilers sport a 14-1 record against the Storm dating back to the 1988-89 campaign when Findlay won by a score of 106-54.

The Oilers swept their season series against the Storm last season, winning 73-60 in Findlay and 85-68 in Painesville.

In the Oilers home win, Margaret Wuebker had 17 points and 11 rebounds while Lacey Kessler came off the bench to provide 13 points and six boards.

In the road win, Karli Beasley poured in 22 points on 7-of-10 shooting to lead the charge.

Karli Bonar scored 14 points to go along with four rebounds and three assists while Nikki Gunning had ten points and three steals.

Findlay

The University of Findlay women's basketball team put a season-high point total in their 99-80 win over Tiffin University on Jan. 17 in Croy Gymnasium. The victory gave the Oilers a 9-5 record on the year with a 5-5 record in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play.

The Oilers shot 61.7 percent (37-of-60) from the floor in the win, which included a 52.4 percent (11-of-21) showing from three point range. The Oilers also forced 22 turnovers and held a 40-19 advantage in points off the bench.

Karli Bonar continued her hot play with 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting. She canned five three pointers and also recorded four rebounds and three assists.

Nikki Gunning came off the bench to provide 17 points on 5-of-9 shooting while Kristin Klausing stuffed the stat sheet with 12 points, five assists, four steals and three rebounds.

Ciara Geiger contributed 12 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals while Margaret Wuebker and Kelsey Lewis had ten points apiece.

Haley Horstman just missed out on being the Oilers seventh player in double figures as she finished with eight points and four assists.

Ashland

The Eagles are 10-6 on the year with a 6-4 mark in league play. They have been led by Taylor Woods, who is averaging 13.8 points per game.

Laina Snyder (13.1), Suzy Wollenhaupt (11.1) and Andi Daugherty (10.9) are also scoring in double figures each game.

Daugherty and Snyder have also been strong on the boards as they are averaging 8.7 and 8.2 rebounds per game, respectively.

Lake Erie

The Storm are 7-9 on the season with a 2-8 mark in GLIAC play. They have been led by Kayla Gabor, who is averaging 14.4 points per game.

Lake Erie leads the GLIAC with 12.8 steals per game and forces their opponents into 23.7 turnovers per contest.

Bonar Earns Honor

Sophomore guard Karli Bonar was tabbed the GLIAC South Division Player of the Week on Jan. 19. She earned the honor by averaging 17.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game in wins over Ohio Dominican (1/15) and Tiffin (1/17).

Putting Points on the Board

The Oilers are averaging 75.2 points per game this season, the second best mark in the GLIAC. They have done so with a balanced offensive attack that includes eight players averaging more than 5.0 points per game.

Sophomore guard Karli Bonar leads the team in scoring at 11.3 points per game while junio forward Margaret Wuebker (10.9) and senior guard Nikki Gunning (10.5) are also averaging in double figures.

The Oilers have also had nine different players reach double figures in a game this season.

Hot Shooting

The Oilers are shooting 47.5 percent from the floor as a team, which is the best mark in the GLIAC.  Sophomore guard Karli Bonar is ranked fourth in the GLIAC with a 55.3 percent shooting clip.

Bombs Away

The Oilers are shooting 39.0 percent from three point range this season, the best percentage in the GLIAC. Sophomore guard Karli Bonar leads the squad with a 50.6 percent shooting clip from long range, which is the top mark in the league. 

She is also making 2.8 three pointers per game, the fourth best total in the GLIAC.
