Oilers to Host ODU, Travel to Tiffin

The Oilers will host Ohio Dominican on Thursday before hitting the road to take on Tiffin this Saturday. The Oilers and Panthers are scheduled to tip at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Oilers and Dragons will tip at 3 p.m. on Saturday.

Series Information

The Oilers hold a 15-4 advantage in the all-time series against Ohio Dominican dating back to the 1991-92 campaign when the Panthers claimed a 77-69 victory over Findlay in the NAIA District 22 playoffs.

Findlay came away with a 70-57 win over Ohio Dominican earlier this season in Columbus.

Down 54-47 with 7:41 to play in the game, the Oilers went on a 22-0 run to erase the deficit and come away with the road victory. The Oilers shot 43.4 percent (23-of-53) from the floor and limited the Panthers to a 35.6 percent (21-of-59) shooting clip. They also forced 28 turnovers and came away with 15 steals in the victory.

Karli Bonar led the team with 18 points on 5-of-8 shooting. She canned 4-of-7 attempts from three point range and also added two rebounds, an assist and a steal.

Nikki Gunning came off the bench to provide 12 points and four rebounds while Lacey Kessler chipped in eight points, four rebounds and four steals for Findlay as well.

The Oilers hold a commanding 41-8 advantage in the all-time series against the Dragons dating back to the 1984-85 campaign when Findlay was victorious by a score of 77-36.

The Oilers cruised to a 99-80 win over the Dragons earlier this season in Croy Gymnasium. The Oilers shot 61.7 percent (37-of-60) from the floor in the win, which included a 52.4 percent (11-of-21) showing from three point range. The Oilers also forced 22 turnovers and held a 40-19 advantage in points off the bench.

Karli Bonar led the way with 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting. She canned five three pointers and also recorded four rebounds and three assists.

Nikki Gunning came off the bench to provide 17 points on 5-of-9 shooting while Kristin Klausing stuffed the stat sheet with 12 points, five assists, four steals and three rebounds.

Ciara Geiger contributed 12 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals while Margaret Wuebker and Kelsey Lewis had ten points apiece.

Haley Horstman just missed out on being the Oilers seventh player in double figures as she finished with eight points and four assists.

Findlay

The Oilers lost 93-70 to 10th-ranked Wayne State University on Monday in Detroit, Mich to give them an 11-8 record on the season.

The Oilers only trailed by two at 39-37 when the first half buzzer sounded, but the Warriors took control in the second half as they out-scored Findlay by a 54-33 margin.

The Oilers shot a mere 30.2 percent (19-of-63) from the floor while the Warriors hit a blistering 61 percent (35-of-59) of their field goal tries. Findlay forced 22 turnovers in the game, but the Warriors had it dialed in from long distance, hitting 11-of-15 (73.3%) tries from three point land.

Ciara Geiger paced the Oilers with 17 points, five rebounds, three steals and two assists.

Lacey Kessler came off the bench to provide 14 points and five rebounds while Kelsey Lewis also reached double figures with ten points to go along with five boards.

Margaret Wuebker, Emily Molnar and Nikki Gunning each scored six points apiece as well.

The Warriors were led by Des Lavita-Stephens'25 points while Shareta Brown recorded a triple-double with 24 points, 16 rebounds and ten assists.

The Panthers are 6-14 on the season with a 3-11 mark in conference play. Kacee Hockenberry leads the team with an average of 15.8 points per game.

Melissa Scherpenberg is averaging a double-double each and every night as she is pumping in 10.9 points and 10.8 rebounds per game.

The Dragons are 5-15 on the year with a 4-10 record in GLIAC competition. Kaylee Patton leads the team and is averaging 12.2 points per outing.

Bre Nauman is also scoring in double figures at 11.8 points per game while Jordan Fraley is producing 9.8 points per contest.

Putting Points on the Board

The Oilers are averaging 72.8 points per game this season, the fourth best mark in the GLIAC. They have done so with a balanced offensive attack that includes eight players averaging more than 5.5 points per game.

Senior guard Ciara Geiger (10.5), senior guard Nikki Gunning (10.2), sophomore guard Karli Bonar (10.1) and junior forward Margaret Wuebker (10.0) are all averaging in double figures for the Oilers on the year.

The Oilers have also had nine different players reach double figures in a game this season.

Bombs Away

The Oilers are shooting 38.0 percent from three point range this season, the second best percentage in the GLIAC. Sophomore guard Karli Bonar leads the squad with a 48.5 percent shooting clip from long range, which is the second best mark in the league. 

She is also making 2.5 three pointers per game, the fourth best total in the GLIAC.

Bonar has a chance to establish a new school record for most made three pointers in a season this year as she has canned 48 so far. The school record of 68 was set by Maggie Gompers during the 2008-09 campaign. 

Getting to the Line

The Oilers have made more free throws this year than their opponents have attempted. They have connected on 299 free throws this season while their opponents have only made 281 trips to the line.
