Oilers to Host Ashland/Lake Erie

The Oilers will be at home twice this week to host Ashland University and Lake Erie College. The Oilers will play the Eagles on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and then host the Storm on Saturday at 1 p.m.

The Oilers game against the Eagles will be broadcast on UFTV, channel 20 in the Findlay area.

Series Information

The Oilers trail 25-16 in the all-time series against Ashland dating back to the 1990-91 campaign when the Eagles were victorious by a score of 58-42.

The Eagles topped the Oilers by a score of 77-66 earlier this season in Ashland.

The Oilers shot 42.6 percent (23-of-54) from the floor while the Eagles posted a 53.6 percent (30-of-56) shooting clip in the game. The Eagles also out-rebounded Findlay by a 41-27 margin.

Ciara Geiger posted 18 points on 7-of-14 shooting while Nikki Gunning had 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting. Geiger also added four rebounds, two assists and two steals while Gunning made 5-of-8 tries from long range.

Kristin Klausing had eight points and three steals while Lacey Kessler provided seven points and three boards off the bench.

The Eagles were led by Laina Snyder, who had 18 points and ten rebounds. Andi Daugherty also recorded a double-double with 13 points and 12 boards.

The Oilers sport a 15-1 record against the Storm dating back to the 1988-89 campaign when Findlay won by a score of 106-54.

Earlier this season the Oilers claimed a 66-58 win over the Storm in Painesville.

The Oilers shot 48.8 percent (21-of-43) from the floor and forced 21 turnovers in the game. They also held the Storm to a 39.7 percent (23-of-58) shooting clip in the win.

Karli Bonar led the way with 17 points to go along with three rebounds and two steals. She hit 5-of-12 shot attempts and connected on 5-of-10 three point tries.

Ciara Geiger also reached double figures with 14 points and stuffed the stat sheet with five rebounds, four steals, three assists and a block in the game.

Kristin Klausing chipped in nine points, four rebounds and four assists while Margaret Wuebker, Shannon Zajec and Kelsey Lewis had five points apiece.

Findlay

The Oilers lost to Tiffin on Feb. 5 by a score of 68-64. The loss put the Oilers record at 11-10 overall and 7-10 in GLIAC.

The Oilers only shot 34.8 percent (23-of-66) from the floor and canned only 28 percent (7-of-25) of their tries from behind the three point line. They were also out-rebounded by a 49-30 margin, which led to 13 second chance points for the Dragons.

The Dragons meanwhile connected on 46.4 percent (26-of-56) of their field goal attempts and were sharing the ball, assisting on 18 of their 26 made shots.

Leading the way for Findlay was Ciara Geiger. The senior dropped in 27 points including a trio of three pointers. The point total tied her for her career-high. Geiger also grabbed five rebounds, collected three steals and had a pair of blocks in the contest.

Haley Horstman shot 5-7 from the field and scored 12 points to go along with six rebounds while Margaret Wuebker turned in ten points and seven rebounds off the bench for the Oilers.

The Eagles are 17-6 on the season with a 13-4 record in conference play. Taylor Woods leads the team and sports averages of 14.0 points, 3.8 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game.

Laina Snyder is averaging 13.9 points and 8.5 rebounds per game while Andi Daugherty is scoring 11.9 points to go along with 8.4 rebounds per contest.

The Storm are 9-14 on the year with a 4-13 mark in the GLIAC. Kayla Gabor leads the team with averages of 13.0 points and 3.5 rebounds per game.

Kaeding Skelton is averaging 7.2 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.

Putting Points on the Board

The Oilers are averaging 71.9 points per game this season, the fourth best mark in the GLIAC. They have done so with a balanced offensive attack that includes eight players averaging more than 5.0 points per game.

Senior guard Ciara Geiger (11.2) and sophomore guard Karli Bonar (10.1) are averaging in double figures while junior forward Margaret Wuebker (9.9) and senior guard Nikki Gunning (9.4) are nearly averaging in double figures for the Oilers on the season.

The Oilers have also had nine different players reach double figures in a game this season.

Bombs Away

The Oilers are shooting 37.1 percent from three point range this season, the second best percentage in the GLIAC. Sophomore guard Karli Bonar leads the squad with a 45.8 percent shooting clip from long range, which is the fourth best mark in the league. 

She is also making 2.6 three pointers per game, the fourth best total in the GLIAC.

Bonar has a chance to establish a new school record for most made three pointers in a season this year as she has canned 54 so far. The school record of 68 was set by Maggie Gompers during the 2008-09 campaign.
