Oilers Prepare for Walsh and Malone

The Oilers will host Walsh University on Feb. 19 at 5:30 p.m. before hitting the road to take on Malone at 1 p.m. on Feb. 21.

Series Information

The Oilers hold a 12-4 advantage in the all-time series against the Cavaliers dating back to the 1983-84 season when Findlay came away with a 69-66 win in the NAIA District 22 playoffs.

The Cavaliers defeated the Oilers by a score of 63-48 earlier this season in Canton.

The Oilers struggled to find their shooting stroke as they connected on only 28.3 percent (17-of-60) of their shot attempts in the game. They were 2-of-17 (11.8%) from behind the three point line and hit only 12-of-25 (48%) attempts from the charity stripe during the loss.

Margaret Wuebker led the team with 12 points and six rebounds. She hit 4-of-7 shot attempts from the field and also added a steal and a block.

Emily Molnar came off the bench to score a career-high eight points while Ciara Geiger had seven points, six rebounds and four steals.

Kristin Klausing added six points and four boards while Kelsey Lewis had six points and eight rebounds as well.

Lacey Kessler chipped in four points and seven rebounds in the game too.

The Oilers hold a commanding 20-2 record against the Pioneers in their all-time series dating back to the 1991-92 campaign when Findlay won by a score of 77-43.

The Oilers pounded the Pioneers by a score of 81-54 earlier this season in Croy behind 20 points from Nikki Gunning.

Ciara Geiger and Margaret Wuebker also reached double figures in the win, scoring 11 and ten points, respectively. Geiger had three rebounds and two assists while Wuebker snatched eight boards in the win.

Karli Bonar had nine points on three triples while Lynsey Englebrecht produced nine points and five rebounds.

The Oilers, who shot 51.9 percent (28-of-54) from the floor and 52 percent (13-of-25) from behind the three point line, also received eight points from Shannon Zacjec in the victory.

Findlay

The Oilers defeated Lake Erie College by a score of 78-57 in their last game on Feb. 14 in Croy Gymnasium. The win gave the Oilers a 13-10 record on the season with a 9-10 mark in the GLIAC.

The Oilers went up 38-36 at the half and then blew the Storm out in the second half, out-scoring Lake Erie by a 40-21 margin.

Findlay shot 50 percent (27-of-54) from the floor in the win and held the Storm to a mere 28.8 percent (17-of-59) shooting clip. They also drained 10-of-27 (37%) attempts from three point range and held a 40-32 advantage on the boards in the game.

Karli Bonar splashed home five three pointers and ended the game with 17 points while Margaret Wuebker came off the bench to provide 17 points and six rebounds in only 21 minutes of work.

Nikki Gunning provided some more scoring punch off the pine with 13 points while Kelsey Lewis nearly had a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds.

Kristin Klausing stuffed the stat sheet with seven points, five assists and four rebounds to aid the Oilers in their win as well.

Walsh

The Cavaliers are 17-8 on the season with an 11-8 mark in the GLIAC. They have been led by Kelsey Funderburgh, who is averaging 15.3 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.6 steals per game.

Brooklyn Wooten is also scoring in double figures at 11.0 points per game while Brittni Clopton is giving Walsh 9.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per contest.

Malone

The Pioneers are 8-15 on the season with a 6-13 record in GLIAC competition. They have been led by Rachel Goddard, who is averaging 11.8 points per game.

Selana Reale is nearly averaging in double figures for Walsh as she sports averages of 9.9 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game.

Hot Shooting

The Oilers are shooting 44.8 percent from the floor as a team, which is the third best mark in the GLIAC.  Junior forward Kelsey Lewis leads the team with a 61.0 percent shooting clip.

Bombs Away

The Oilers are shooting 37.3 percent from three point range this season, the second best percentage in the GLIAC. Sophomore guard Karli Bonar leads the squad with a 47.8 percent shooting clip from long range, which is the third best mark in the league. 

She is also making 2.8 three pointers per game, the second best total in the GLIAC.

Bonar has a chance to establish a new school record for most made three pointers in a season this year as she has canned 64 so far. The school record of 68 was set by Maggie Gompers during the 2008-09 campaign. 

Automatic from the Line

Senior guard Nikki Gunning is hitting 85.7 percent of her free throw attempts this season. Her shooting percentage from the charity stripe is the sixth best mark in the GLIAC.

As a team, the Oilers are hitting 70.6 percent of their free throw attempts. They have also reached the foul line 139 more times than their opponents this season.
