Big 2nd Half Gives Findlay 75-59 Win over Lakers
The University of Findlay women's basketball team used a big third quarter to pull away from Lake Superior State University in their Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) opener on Dec. 3. The quarter propelled them to a 75-59 win over the Lakers in Sault Ste., Marie, Mich. and the victory improved their record to 4-1 on the year.
Leading by a score of 40-37 at the half, the Oilers out-scored the Lakers by an 18-9 margin in the third quarter. The lead gave them a 12-point advantage and some breathing room for the rest of the game.
The Oilers shot 50 percent (29-of-58) from the field and held a 34-19 advantage on the boards, which included 16 offensive rebounds.
Senior forward Kelsey Lewis led the Oilers with a career-high 21 points on 9-of-14 shooting. She also added seven rebounds and three assists in the win.
Sophomore guard Haley Horstman also had a great game for Findlay with 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting while junior guard Karli Bonar contributed 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting. Her three triples also moved her into fourth place all-time at UF with 144 career three pointers.
Senior forward Margaret Wuebker added nine points, four rebounds and three assists while sophomore guard Emily Molnar tied her career-high with eight points.
Freshman forward Anna Hintz continued her strong play off the bench with four points, nine rebounds, three assists, two blocks and a steal in 21 minutes of action.
The Oilers will face Northwood University on Dec. 5 in their next game. The contest is scheduled to tip at 1 p.m. in Midland, Mich.
