Oilers Host Huskies, Wildcats this Week

The Oilers will host Michigan Technological University and Northern Michigan University this week in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action. The Oilers and Huskies will play at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday before the Wildcats come to town for a 1 p.m. game on Saturday in Croy Gymnasium.

Series Information

The Oilers trail in the all-time series against Michigan Tech by a 16-5 margin dating back to the 1997-98 campaign when the Huskies rolled to a 79-33 win.

The Huskies came away with a 75-60 win over the Oilers last year in Houghton, Mich. The Oilers opened up a 41-30 lead at the half, but were out-scored 45-19 in the final half.

Kristin Klausing led the way with 12 points and six rebounds. She also dished out five assists in 28 minutes of action.

Margaret Wuebker had ten points and four rebounds while Haley Horstman, Ciara Geiger and Nikki Gunning had eight points apiece.

The Oilers shot 48.3 percent (21-of-43) from the floor while the Huskies connected on 48.2 percent (27-of-56) of their shot attempts.

Brenna Heise led Michigan Tech with 22 points while Kelli Guy scored 18.

The Oilers trail by a margin of 17-5 in the all-time series against Northern Michigan dating back to the 1997-98 campaign when the Wildcats pounded Findlay by a 71-39 margin.

The Wildcats came away with a 66-59 win over the Oilers last year in Marquette, Mich. The Oilers, who held a 10-point lead in the second half, shot 40.7 percent (22-of-54) from the floor while the Wildcats converted 54.8 percent (23-of-42) of their shot attempts in the game.

Margaret Wuebker led the Oilers with 14 points and four rebounds while Kristin Klausing tied her career-high with 12 points. She also added five rebounds and a pair of assists too.

Ciara Geiger also reached double figures with ten points on 5-of-13 shooting while Nikki Gunning and Karli Bonar had eight and five points, respectively, in the loss.

Alyssa Colla led the Wildcats with 20 points while Lauren Gruber and Bre Gaspervich each scored 16 points apiece.

Findlay

The Oilers improved to 2-0 in GLIAC play with an 81-75 win over Northwood on Dec. 5 in Midland, Mich. The victory gave the Oilers a 5-1 record on the season.

The Oilers shot a season-high 54.9 percent (28-of-51) from the floor and splashed 6-of-11 (54.5%) tries from three point range. They also blocked a season-high nine shots and limited the Timberwolves to a 40.3 percent (27-of-67) shooting clip.

Haley Horstman paced the Oilers with a career-high 22 points in the win. She hit 7-of-13 shot attempts from the field and also canned 8-of-10 tries from the charity stripe.

Karli Bonar had 14 points and five rebounds, hitting 4-of-5 attempts from long range, while Kendyl Hinton produced a career-high 11 points in the game.

Margaret Wuebker had ten points and five rebounds while Kelsey Lewis and Anna Hintz had eight points apiece.

The Timberwolves were led by Jordyn Nurenberg's 17 points and ten rebounds.

The Huskies are 4-2 on the year with a 2-0 record in conference play. They are coming off of a 70-64 win over Walsh.

Senior Danielle Blake leads four Huskie players in double figures at 14.2 points per game. She is also grabbing 10.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 2.2 blocks and 1.8 steals per game.

Senior Kylie Moxley (14.2), junior Morgan Anderson (13.3) and junior Kelli Guy (12.3) are the other Michigan Tech players who average in double figures on the season.

Northern Michigan

The Wildcats are 2-4 on the season with a 1-1 record in GLIAC competition. They are coming off of a 61-59 win over Malone.

Junior Bre Gaspervich leads the team at 11.6 points per game while freshman Taylor Hodell is scoring 10.2 points per outing.

Freshman Chole Tompkins is nearly averaging in double figures at 9.2 points per contest.

Bombs Away

Junior guard Karli Bonar has made 148 career three pointers at Findlay, the fourth best mark in school history. She is chasing former UF star Audra Mihalic for third place on the all-time list. Mihalic canned 160 three pointers for the Oilers from 2007-10.

Bonar broke the school record for most made three pointers in a season last year with 71. She bettered the mark of 68, which was set by Maggie Gompers during the 2008-09 campaign.

In high school at Shadyside, Bonar set Ohio state records for most three pointers made in a season (110) and most made triples in a career (350).

Chasing 1,000 Career Points

Senior forward Margaret Wuebker is looking to become the Oilers 20th member of the 1,000-point club this season. Wuebker has scored 819 career points during her tenure with the program, leaving her 181 points shy of the 1,000-point plateau.

Scoring in Bunches

The Oilers are scoring 76.0 points per game, the second best mark in the GLIAC. They have been led by sophomore guard Haley Horstman, who is averaging 13.5 points per contest. Overall the Oilers have six players averaging 7.5 points per game or better.

Hot Shooting

The Oilers have shot the ball well in the early part of the season, connecting on 48.9 percent of their field goal attempts. Their shooting total is the second best mark in the GLIAC.

Individually, senior forward Kelsey Lewis leads the conference with a 68.8 percent shooting clip. Sophomore guard Haley Horstman is ranked tenth, hitting 53.8 percent of her field goal attempts.

The Oilers have shot over 50 percent from the field in four games this season.

Stroking 3's

The Oilers are hitting 43.7 percent of their three point tries this season, the best percentage in the GLIAC. They have been led by sophomore guard Lynsey Englebrecht, who is hitting 60.0 percent of her long range attempts. The percentage is the best mark in the GLIAC.

Junior guard Karli Bonar is also making a high percentage of her three point attempts and ranks seventh in the conference with a 44.7 percent shooting clip from behind the three point line.
