Horstman Hits at Buzzer

Findlay, OH – The University of Findlay women's basketball team knocked off their third straight Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) opponent on Thursday, Dec. 10 with a 73-72 win over the Huskies of Michigan Tech. The win gives the Oilers a 6-1 record overall with a 3-0 mark in GLIAC play.

Sophomore Haley Horstman continued her solid play with 17 points on 8-10 shooting, but no shot was bigger than the shot she took with 0.4 seconds on the clock. Horstman dribbled to the left elbow and pulled up with a jumper that hit nothing but net as the horn sound.

The Orange and Black relied heavily on the play of senior Margaret Wuebker and she delivered. The Oilers forward dropped in 15 points on 7-9 shooting. She also led the team with five rebounds and dished out a pair of assists. Sharing in the scoring was senior Kelsey Lewis who was able to score 15 points on 5-6 shooting. She made all four of her attempts from the free throw line.

As a team, Findlay shot 53% from the field, the same percentage shot by the Huskies. The home team was out-rebounded but forced five more turnovers than they committed. The big difference was points in the paint where the Oilers held a 46-28 advantage over Michigan Tech.

The Oilers are back on the floor Saturday, Dec. 12 when they take on Northern Michigan in a game slated to begin at 1:00pm.
