Streak Snapped at Hands of GVSU

Allendale, MI – The University of Findlay women's basketball team ran into a buzz saw as their seven-game winning streak was snapped by Grand Valley State University. The game, played on Sunday, Jan. 3, saw the Oilers' red-hot offense come to a sudden halt as they fell by a final of 75-35. The loss is just the second of the season for Findlay as their record falls to 10-2 overall and 5-1 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play.

Findlay has relied on their ability to shoot the ball with accuracy all season, but that ability was not there on Sunday as the Oilers ended the game shooting just 24.1% (13-54)  from the field, including _16.7% (3-18)  from the three point line. This is the lowest shooting percentage for the Oilers this season with their previous low (37.5%) coming on Dec. 10 in a win over Michigan Tech.  The Orange and Black entered the game as the second-best shooting team in the league with a team percentage of 46.6.

Junior Karli Bonar led the Oilers with her eight points, which included a couple of makes from deep. Senior Margaret Wuebker dropped in seven points and was also able to coral seven rebounds, a team-high.

Sophomore Haley Horstman led the team with her three assists while sophomore Emily Molnar had five points, two rebounds, and two assists.

Findlay will be back in action this Thursday, Jan. 7 as they play host to Saginaw Valley State University. That game will begin at 5:30pm.
