Oilers Host ODU/Travel to Tiffin

The Oilers will play their third straight home game when they take on the Ohio Dominican Panthers on Thursday, Jan. 14 in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) matchup that will begin at 5:30 p.m. in Croy Gymnasium. They will then travel to Tiffin on Saturday, Jan. 16 for a game that will begin at 1:00 p.m.

Series Information

This will be the 21st meeting between these two teams. Findlay has a decisive advantage in the series with a 15-5 record that dates back to the 1991-92 season when the teams met in the first round of the NAIA playoffs. The Panthers won that game 77-69.

Last season saw these two teams split their meetings as the Oilers won the first contest 70-57 on Jan. 13, 2015, but the Panthers got revenge on Feb. 5 with a 76-61 win. In both games, the home team was the loser.

Karli Bonar was the leading scorer for Findlay in both games with 18 and 14 point performances, respectively. In the series she made 10 field goals, eight of which were threes. The only other double-digit performance was Nikki Gunning's 12 points in the first contest.Ciara

Geiger grabbed 10 rebounds in the two games (3 / 7) and dished out five assists and had three steals in the Jan. 13 meeting.

Madi Rittinger was the star for ODU as she combined for 33 points, 20 rebounds, eight blocks, five assists, and four steals.

Findlay

The Oilers enter the game with an 11-3 record overall with a 6-2 mark in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play. This is the best start for a Findlay women's basketball team since 2012-13 when the Oilers also started the season 11-3.

Findlay is led by sophomore Haley Horstman who is scoring at a rate of 12.0 points per game, grabbing 3.5 rebounds per game, and dishing out 2.2 assists per game.

Also picking up a bulk of the scoring are seniors Margaret Wuebker and Kelsey Lewis. They are scoring 10.1 and 9.7 points per game, respectively. Wuebker is second on the team with 5.4 rebounds per contest while Lewis is grabbing 4.9 rebounds per game. Lewis' field goal percentage of 64.8 is the best in the GLIAC.

The Oilers have shot the ball well in the early part of the season. Despite struggling vs. Grand Valley, Findlay is still connecting on 45.1 percent of their field goal attempts. Their shooting total is the third best mark in the GLIAC.

The Panthers enter this contest with a 10-4 record overall and a 5-3 mark in GLIAC play. They have won two straight games and four of their last six.

Senior Melissa Scherpenberg is averaging a double-double as she is leading ODU this season with 13.7 points per game and in rebounds with 11.1. Her rebounds per game are good for best in the GLIAC while her points place her in 11th.

Junior Lauren Bates (12.0), junior Tori Beth Leader (11.4), and junior Madi Rittinger (10.7) are each scoring in double-figures for the Panthers. Rittinger is grabbing 6.4 rebounds per game and dishing out 3.0 assists per game while Bates is pulling down 5.2 rebounds per game.

As a team, Ohio Dominican is the best defensive rebounding team in the conference as they are pulling in 29 defensive rebounds per contest. Their offensive rebounds (13.7) and total rebounds (42.7) are second-best.

They are also top-five in the GLIAC in blocks per game (4.9, 2nd), rebound margin (+7.9, 3rd), assists per game (16.1, 3rd), free throw percentage (75, 3rd), opp. field goal percentage (38.7, 4th), and points (999, 4th).

Tiffin

The Dragons are currently 3-10 overall and sit in eighth place in the GLIAC South with a 1-7 mark in conference play. Their last game was a 70-55 victory over Lake Superior State University.

Bre Nauman is the leading scorer for Tiffin as she is scoring 12.8 points per game. Jordan Fraley is close behind with 11.7 points per game. Nauman is the leading rebounder for the Dragons with 7.2 per game.

As a team, Tiffin is best free-throw shooting squad in the GLIAC as they are knocking down 79% of their attempts from the charity stripe.

Bombs Away

Junior guard Karli Bonar has made 166 career three pointers at Findlay, the third best mark in school history. She is chasing former UF star Maggie Gompers for second place on the all-time list. Gompers canned 206 three pointers for the Oilers from 2007-10.

Bonar broke the school record for most made three pointers in a season last year with 71. She bettered the mark of 68, which was set by Maggie Gompers during the 2008-09 campaign.

Chasing 1,000 Career Points

Senior forward Margaret Wuebker is looking to become the Oilers 20th member of the 1,000-point club this season. Wuebker has scored 903 career points during her tenure with the program, leaving her 97 points shy of the 1,000-point plateau.

Reaching the 90-Point Plateau

The Oilers have scored 90 or more points 68 times since the 1978-79 season and sport a 67-1 (.985) record in those games.  Their only loss came at the hands of Wilmington, who defeated the Oilers by a score of 110-98 in 1985.

Winning GLIAC South Division Titles

The Oilers have won five GLIAC South Division titles since joining the league in 1997. They have captured championships in 1998, 1999, 2000, 2010 and 2011.

GLIAC Tournament

The Oilers have appeared in the GLIAC Tournament five times in their history.  They sport a 3-5 record in tournament play.
