Buzzer Beats Oilers

Findlay, OH – The University of Findlay women's basketball team dropped an 81-79 decision to the Ohio Dominican Panthers on Thursday, Jan 14. The loss gives the Oilers an 11-4 record overall with a 6-3 mark in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play.

Despite trailing by 14 at the half, the Oilers battled back to tie take a four point lead with 4:23 to play in the game. The Panthers clawed back and had the ball with 14.6 seconds to play in a 79-79 game. A corner three resulted in an air ball but the rebound fell into the lap of Melissa Scherpenberg who put a shot up as time expired, giving Ohio Dominican the victory.

Both teams were hot from the floor as they each shot 30-of-59 from the floor for a 50.8 field goal percentage. The Oilers hit 7-of-14 from three and turned the ball over seven less times than the Panthers. However, the Black and Gold out-rebounded Findlay 36-23 and scored five more second-chance points.

Sophomore Haley Horstman set a new career-high as she was able to score 22 points on 10-of-15 from the floor. Her field goal makes and attempts were both career-highs, as well. 14 of her points came in the second half as she was a major key to the Oilers comeback.

 Senior Margaret Wuebker scored 18 points, grabbed three rebounds, dished out a pair of assists, and had two steals. She shot 6-of-9 in the game including 2-for-2 from three point territory.

Junior Karli Bonar was the final Oilers player to score in double-figures as she dropped 12 points on 4-of-8 from three.

The Oilers are back on the floor on Saturday, Jan. 16 when they travel to take on the Tiffin Dragons in a game set to begin at 1:00pm.
