Lake Erie Outlasts Findlay

Findlay, OH – The University of Findlay women's basketball team lost in their game vs. Lake Erie College on Saturday, Jan 23. The final score was 73-64 and left the Oilers with a record of 11-7 overall and 6-6 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play. With the loss, Findlay has now dropped four games in a row and five of their last six after starting the season 10-1.

Trailing by 13 points at halftime, the Orange and Black needed a comeback in the second half to claim the victory. Seconds later, sophomore Haley Horstman had a clean steal in the back court and drove to the lane. Her shot went up and in with a whistle, but the call went against Horstman as she picked up a charge. From that point on, Findlay never got closer than eight points as Lake Erie went on for the win.

Turnovers were the major difference in the game with Lake Erie forcing 20 turnovers. The Storm entered the game as the GLIAC leader in steals per game at 11.8. They had 13 in this contest.

Bonar led the scoring for a Findlay team that shot 45.1% in the game as she scored 11 points on 3-of-7 shooting. Each of her makes were from deep.

Senior Margaret Wuebker was the only other player to score in double-figures for the Oilers as she scored 10 points and grabbed four rebounds. She also had four assists.

Sophomore Lynsey Englebrecht also hit three triples and finished the game with nine points.

Freshman Allie Thobe ended the game with seven points and three rebounds while freshman teammate Anna Hintz ended with six points and a career-high 11 rebounds.
