Record Night at Charity Stripe Not Enough

Findlay, OH – The University of Findlay women's basketball team dropped another close game on Thursday, Jan. 28 in Croy Gymnasium. Despite an 11-point lead in the third quarter, the 76-75, double-overtime loss to Walsh University is the fifth in a row for the Oilers. Their record is now 11-8 overall and 6-7 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play. It was the first time since Jan. 5, 2011 that the Oilers went to double-overtime. In that game, Findlay earned an 80-77 win over Ashland.

Neither team shot extremely well as Walsh ended shooting  35.7%  (25-of-70) from the floor while Findlay ended with a percentage of 36.8 (25-of-68). The major factor in the game was turnovers. Findlay failed to protect the ball as they finished with 23 turnovers compared to the Caveliers' 12.

The Oilers kept themselves in the game with a record-setting effort at the free-throw line. As a team, the Orange and Black hit 18-of-18, tying the old UF record which was set in a game vs. West Liberty State on Nov. 28, 2004.

Senior Margaret Wuebker led the charge at the line as she hit a career-high 10-of-10 and finished with a team-high 18 points. She also grabbed a team-high nine rebounds and had two blocks.

Also playing well was sophomore Haley Horstman who grabbed a career-high eight rebounds and scored 15 points. She hit 2-of-4 from deep.

Freshman Anna Hintz, who made just her second career start, nearly had a double-double as well as she dropped 11 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and blocked a pair of shots. She hit a career-high from the free throw line as well as she nailed 5-of-5 from the stripe.

The final Oilers player in double-figures was junior Karli Bonar who hit four threes and ended the game with 16 points while freshman Jenna Stegmaier led the team with three assists.

Findlay will end its home stand with a trip to Malone University on Saturday, Jan. 30 to take on the Pioneers. That game will begin at 1:00 p.m.
