Findlay Dominates in Canton

Canton, OH – The University of Findlay women's basketball team got back on the winning track in a big way on Saturday, Jan. 30. The Oilers invaded Malone University and downed the Pioneers 78-53. With the win, Findlay is now 12-8 overall with a 7-7 mark in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GILAC) play.

Domination was the name of the game as Findlay posted their second-highest field goal percentage of the year, making 32-of-61 from the floor for 52.5%. They also hit 7-of-15 from deep. Along with that high shooting percentage, the Orange and Black held Malone to just 14-of-54 (25.9%) from the floor.

All those missed shots mean nothing if the rebound cannot be secured and the Oilers did just that as they out-rebounded Malone 48-23.

Leading the way was senior Margaret Wuebker who shot 7-of-13 from the floor to score a season-high 19 points. She also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. Wuebker now has 991 points in her career and looks to become the 20th player in program history to reach 1,000 career points in the Oilers game on Monday.

Freshman Anna Hintz, who has played her way into a starting role in her first year, played yet another big game by setting a career-high with 17 points. She shot 80% (8-of-10) from the floor and grabbed seven rebounds. Hintz also led the team with three assists.

Another solid performance came from freshman Dana Fricke who also scored a career-high with nine points off the bench. She also grabbed five rebounds, the most since a nine rebound performance in the first game of the year back on Nov. 13.

Junior Karli Bonar also scored nine points while sophomore Haley Horstman scored six and corralled six rebounds.

The Oilers are back in Croy Gymnasium on Monday, Feb. 1 when they host Wayne State University. That game will begin at 5:30 p.m.
