Wuebker Double-Double Fuels Oilers' Payback in Painesville

Box Score

Painesville, OH – The University of Findlay women's basketball team took on the Storm of Lake Erie College on Saturday, Feb. 13 and came away with the 61-56 victory. The win gives the Oilers revenge for the 73-64 loss they suffered at the hands of the Storm back on Jan. 23 and gives Findlay a 15-10 record overall and a 10-9 mark in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play.

The Orange and Black looked to be in control when they took a 12 point lead (41-29) early in the third quarter and a ten point lead heading to the fourth.  The Storm battled back and cut the Findlay to three points (55-52) with 1:29 left, and again with 40 seconds left (57-54).  From then on, sophomores Lynsey Englebrecht and Kendyl Hinton each made good on a pair of free throws to ice the game.

Lake Erie failed to shoot the ball with any consistency as they finished the game 18-of-64 from the floor for 28.1%. On the flip side, the Oilers buried 22-of-50 shots for 44%. Each team drained six from beyond the arc. What kept the Green and White in the game was their ability to steal the ball. They had 11 in the game, which is below their 12 steals per game average that currently leads the GLIAC.

Findlay was led offensively by sophomore Haley Horstman who scored 13 points on 5-of-8 from the floor. She was second on the team with six rebounds.

Senior Margaret Wuebker played a great game for the Oilers as she was able to collect a double-double, the first for Findlay since senior Kelsey Lewis had 11 points and ten rebounds against Saint Leo back in December. Wuebker grabbed ten  boards, the second highest of the year for the senior, and scored ten points in the win. She also dished out a team-high five assists. Wuebker's last double-double came on Dec. 6, 2014 when she scored 19 points and had ten rebounds vs. Lake Superior State.

Also reaching double-figures was Englrebrecht. She finished the game with ten points on 2-of-3 from deep, again improving her GLIAC leading percentage from deep. In her last three games, Englebrecht is 8-for-10 from behind the arc.

Junior Karli Bonar hit a pair of triples and finished with six points. She now has 70 made three pointers this season, just one shy of the Findlay record of 71 that she set last season.

The Storm were led by Kayla Gabor who was able to score 19 points in the game. That makes two good games against Findlay for Gabor as she dropped 21 in the January meeting between the two schools.

Findlay will return to the court on Thursday, Feb. 18 when they travel to Walsh. That game will begin at 5:30pm.
