Bonar Breaks Record in Oilers' Loss

Box Score

North Canton, OH – The University of Findlay women's basketball team failed to make shots in Thursday, Feb. 18 at Walsh University. That lack of shooting led to a 78-53 defeat at the hands of the Cavaliers and dropped the Oilers' record to 15-11 overall with a 10-10 mark in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play.

Findlay trailed wire-to-wire and amassed a shooting percentage of 35.8 on 19-of-53 from the floor. The made field goals and field goal percentage are the second lowest of the season for the Orange and Black. This game marks the second time this season that an Oilers player has failed to reach double-figures in scoring.

The key moments in the game came early on when, down by 11 points (18-7) with 1:50 to play in the first quarter, the Oilers began a 13-to-5 run to pull the score to 23-20 with 5:07 left in the first half. However, the Cavs took that blow and delivered one of their own as they outscored the Oilers 12-4 over the final five minutes and took a 35-24 lead into halftime. A quick 7-0 run out of the locker room set the tone for the second half as the Cavaliers surged to the 25-point victory.

One high-point in the game for Findlay came when junior Karli Bonar nailed her second three point jumper of the game early in the second half. That shot gave her 72 made threes this season which breaks the Findlay record for threes in a season. The former record also belonged to Bonar as she knocked down 71 threes last season. She now has 204 threes in her career, third all-time at Findlay. The Shadyside, Ohio native finished the game with six points.

Leading the scoring and stuffing the stat sheet for Findlay was freshman Anna Hintz who scored eight points on 3-of-4 shooting. She also grabbed five rebounds, tied a career-high with three blocks, and set a new career-high with four steals. She also had two assists on her way to leading the Oilers in every offensive category.

Sharing the team-high in points was sophomore Lynsey Englebrecht who hit a pair of threes en route to an eight point performance. Fellow sophomore Haley Horstman scored six and had three rebounds while senior Margaret Wuebker scored four, had four rebounds, and two blocks.

Findlay will be back on the court on Saturday, Feb. 20 when they host Malone for a Senior Day contest set to begin at 1:00pm.
