Oilers' Season Ends in Detroit

Detroit, MI – The University of Findlay women's basketball team ended their season with a tough 90-76 loss at Wayne State on Thursday, Feb. 25. The closes the book on this season with the Oilers finishing with a record of 15-13 overall and 10-12 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play after starting the season 11-2 overall.

Findlay played will throughout the game but a huge fourth quarter by the Warriors was the deciding factor. In that final period, Wayne State outscored Findlay 31-15.

Senior Margaret Wuebker, playing in her final game for the Orange and Black, fittingly played one of the best games of her career. The newly minted thousand point scorer finished the contest with 24 points, 16 of which came in the first half. She shot 8-of-10 from the field and hit 8-of-9 from the charity stripe. The 24 points are the second most in her four year career. Aside from scoring, Wuebker ripped down eight rebounds, had two assists, and collected two blocks in 23 minutes of action. In her career, Wuebker played 110 games, starting in 100, and finished with 1,106 points, 14th all-time at Findlay.

Sophomore Lynsey Englebrecht finished the contest with eight points on 3-of-8 from the floor and 2-of-7 from deep. She finishes the season ranked atop the GLIAC in three point percentage at 52.8%.

Also playing in her final game was senior Kelsey Lewis. She came off the bench and scored six points on 3-of-5 shooting. She finishes her career having played in 108 games, starting in 25 of those, and scoring 510 points. She ends her career having made 56.4% of her shots and never missed a shot from behind the arc, a perfect 3-for-3.

Junior Karli Bonar, sophomore Shannon Zajec, and freshman Christa Puthoff all ended with five points. Bonar buried one three giving her 75 on the season, four better than the school record of 71 she set a year ago. She is the only player in Oilers history to hit 60 or more threes in her first three seasons and is tied for second all-time at Findlay with 206 career threes made. She looks to take sole possession of first next season and needs to reach the 232 made threes by Trisha Lauck who played from 1996-99.
