Box Score

Indianapolis, IN - For the first time since the 2010-11 season, the University of Findlay women's basketball team dropped their season opener. They fell to Indianapolis in their first game of the GLIAC/GLVC Crossover on Friday, Nov. 11 by a final of 70-59 and begin the season with an 0-1 record.

The Oilers last lead came with 7:15 left in the first quarter when they lead 5-4, but from that point on, the Greyhounds would stay ahead. UIndy took a 20-11 lead into the second quarter and a 35-24 lead at the half.

Findlay was able to outscore Indianapolis 16-13 in the final quarter, but it was not enough to earn the victory.

The Oilers turned the ball over 19 times in the game and shot 19-of-55 from the floor including 7-of-19 from behind the arc.

Leading the charge from deep was junior Lynsey Englebrecht. The Eastlake, Ohio native, who led the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) last season in three-point percentage, poured in 20 points on the strength of six three pointers. She shot 6-of-11 from deep.

The only other double-digit points came from sophomore Anna Hintz who scored 11 points on 5-of-9 from the field. She also grabbed a pair of rebounds.

Findlay's leading rebounder was junior Sarah Baer who grabbed five boards in the game.

Fastbreak points were a big difference in the game as UIndy was able to pick up 13 points via the break while Findlay only picked up two points. The Oilers were outrebounded 37-35 but scored more second-chance points (16-9). Findlay's bench kept the Orange and Black in the game as the non-starters were able to drop 41 of the team's 59 points.

The Oilers will be back on the court on Sunday, Nov. 13 when they take on Lewis University on the final day of the Crossover. That game will begin at 12:00pm.
