Early Lead Propels Oilers Over St. Francis

Findlay, OH – The University of Findlay women's basketball team took down St. Francis in a non-conference matchup on Saturday, Nov. 19. With the 86-72 win in the Oilers first home game of the year, the Orange and Black are now 2-2 on the season.

The home team got off to a fast start in the first quarter as the opened up a 26-14 lead after the opening frame. That lead proved vital as the Oilers outscored the Cougers by a combined two points in the remaining three quarters.

The Oilers shot their best percentage of the season, making 33-of-64 (.516) field goal attempts. They also buried 5-of-11 (.455) from deep, but the biggest factor in the game was rebounds and turnovers. Findlay won the battle on the boards by a 38-27 margin and forced 22 turnovers. Those turnovers were turned into 29 points for Findlay while St. Francis scored 17 points off of the Oilers' 13 turnovers.

Sophomore Christa Puthoff, who played 27 minutes to pace Findlay, put up a new career-high with 24 points scored on 10-of-19 from the floor. That total is also the most by an Oilers' player this season. She was also the leading rebounder as she tripled her career-high and grabbed 12 boards. It was the first double-double for the Oilers this season. No other Findlay player reached double-figures.

Junior Sarah Baer shot 4-of-5 from the floor for nine points. She, along with sophomore Allie Thobe and junior Elissa Ellerbrock, grabbed four rebounds. Ellerbrock also added seven points.

Playing another solid game off the bench was sophomore Anna Hintz who, in just 11 minutes of action, scored nine points on 3-of-3 from the floor. She also had a rebound, steal, and two blocks.

Findlay hits the road for their next game as they travel to Malone to take on the Pioneers in a non-conference game set to begin at 6:00pm on Tuesday, Nov. 22.
