Oilers Home Against Northwood/Lake Superior St.

The Oilers will host a pair of Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) games this week in Croy Gymnasium. They will host Northwood University on Dec. 8 at 7:30 p.m. before welcoming Lake Superior State University to town on Dec. 10 for a 3:00 p.m. contest.

Series Information

The Oilers hold a 16-5 advantage in the all-time series against Northwood dating back to the 1997-98 campaign when Findlay came away with a 73-51 victory.

The Oilers claimed an 81-75 win at Northwood last year behind 22 points from Haley Horstman. She hit 7-of-13 shot attempts from the field and also canned 8-of-10 tries from the charity stripe.

Karli Bonar had 14 points and five rebounds, hitting four three pointers, while Kendyl Hinton produced 11 points in the win.

Margaret Wuebker had ten points and five rebounds while Kelsey Lewis and Anna Hintz each had eight points apiece.

The Oilers shot 54.9 percent (28-of-51) from the floor and splashed 6-of-11 (54.5%) shot attempts from behind the three point line. They also blocked nine shots and limited the Timberwolves to a 40.3 percent (27-of-67) shooting clip.

The Oilers trail by a 14-11 margin in the all-time series against the Lakers dating back to the 1985-86 campaign when Lake Superior State smacked Findlay by a score of 88-61.

The Oilers came away with a 75-59 win over the Lakers last year in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. The Oilers out-scored the Lakers by an 18-9 margin in the third quarter to take control of the game and claim the victory. They shot 50 percent (29-of-58) from the field and held a 34-19 advantage on the boards, which included 16 offensive rebounds.

Kelsey Lewis led the Oilers with 21 points on 9-of-14 shooting. She also added seven rebounds and three assists in the win.

Haley Horstman also had a great game for Findlay with 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting while Karli Bonar contributed 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting. Margaret Wuebker added nine points, four rebounds and three assists while Emily Molnar finished with eight points.

Findlay

The Oilers are 13-8 on the season with an 8-7 record in conference play. They are coming off of an 87-80 win at home against Wayne State on Monday.

Senior forward Margaret Wuebker leads the team with averages of 12.2 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. Sophomore guard Haley Horstman is also having a great season and sports averages of 12.1 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game.

Junior guard Karli Bonar has made 60 three pointers and is averaging 10.6 points per outing as well.

Northwood

The Timberwolves are 3-2 on the season with a 1-1 record in conference play. They are coming off of a 95-63 loss at home to Ashland.

Maddy Seeley leads the team and is averaging 16.6 points per game. Lindsay Orwat is scoring 14.0 points per contest while Jordyn Nurenberg is contributing 12.8 points and 9.2 rebounds per outing.

The Timberwolves are scoring 67.6 points per game and recording 9.6 steals per contest.

The Lakers are 2-6 on the year with a 1-1 mark in GLIAC play. They are coming off of a 72-59 win at home over Tiffin.

Mackenzie Edwards leads the team and is averaging 15.3 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.4 steals per game.

Bombs Away

Senior guard Karli Bonar has made 221 career three pointers at Findlay, the second-best mark in school history. She is chasing former UF star Trisha Lauck for first place on the all-time list. Lauck canned 232 three pointers for the Oilers from 1996-99.

This season, Bonar is making 1.9 three pointers per game for the Oilers. The total is the 13th-best mark in the GLIAC. Teammate Lynsey Englebrecht, a junior guard, is making 2.6 triples per outing, the fifth-best mark in the league.

Grand Theft

The Oilers are averaging 6.9 steals per game, which ranks fourth among all GLIAC programs. Senior guard Karli Bonar leads the team with an average of 1.5 steals per contest while junior guard Lynsey Englebrecht (1.4), junior guard Haley Horstman (1.4), sophomore guard Elissa Ellerbrock (1.3) and sophomore guard Allie Thobe (1.0) are right behind her.

Getting on the Glass

Sophomore center Christa Puthoff ranks fifth in the GLIAC in offensive rebounds per game as she grabbing 3.3 offensive boards per contest. Overall, Puthoff is collecting 5.6 rebounds per outing.

As a team, the Oilers are recording 12.9 offensive rebounds per game. The total is the fifth-best in the GLIAC.
