Bonar Scores Season-High | Oilers Fall in Marquette
Marquette, Mich. – Beginning their final trip to the Upper Peninsula as a member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC), the University of Findlay women's basketball team lost 61-51 to the Northern Michigan Wildcats. With the Dec. 15 loss, the Oilers are now 5-6 on the year and 1-4 in league play.
Findlay took a 3-0 lead to begin the game but after a 14-2 run from the Wildcars, trailed until the final horn sounded.
Despite that run in the first quarter, the Oilers trailed by just four points at the end of the first and by nine at halftime (30-21). Findlay battled to tie the game at 44-44 with 8:15 to play in the game but a 15-6 run from Northern Michigan would seal the victory for the home team.
Both teams struggled from the floor as they combined for just 38.8% shooting. The Oilers finished 22-of-57 (38.6%) from the field including 3-of-10 (30%) from beyond the arc. They attempted just six free throws, a season low.
Senior Karli Bonar was the leading scorer for the Oilers as she scored a season-high 13 points on a perfect 5-of-5 from the floor. She drilled a pair of threes and led the team with two steals.
Sophomore Anna Hintz, coming off a double-double in her previous game, scored nine points and nabbed seven boards. She added three blocks, tying a career-high.
Scoring eight points each were junior Haley Horstman and sophomore Christa Puthoff.
The Oilers will play next on Saturday, Dec. 17 at Michigan Tech in a GLIAC game slated to begin at 4:00 pm.
