Series Information
Saginaw Valley St.: The Oilers have posted a 15-11 record against the Cardinals in their 26 matchups dating back to their first in the 1978-79 season, the first season of women's basketball at Findlay. In that game, the Oilers lost by a score of 88-48. Findlay is 9-6 at home all-time against the Cardinals.
The longest win streak in the series was a run of wins by Findlay that dated from 2008 until 2014 where the Oilers rattled off nine wins in a row. Since then, Findlay has dropped two straight including an 89-83 overtime loss at home last season.
In that game, Findlay outrebounded Saginaw and had more bench points and points in the paint. However, the Cardinals drilled 13-of-23 from deep and made 18-of-21 from the charity stripe.
Karli Bonar scored her career-high 20 points on 4 threes. Margaret Wuebker scored 14 and had six rebounds. Allie Thobe scored 10 points and had six rebounds.
Wayne St.: The Oilers and Warriors have squared off 40 times in their history and have split those meetings at 20 wins apiece. The teams first met in the 1990-91 season with the Oilers coming away with a 57-48 victory.
In games against the Warriors that are played in Croy, the Oilers have a 12-7 record. Findlay has dropped five of the last six meetings to Wayne St. after splitting the series last season.
In the most recent meeting, the final game of last season, the Oilers traveled to Detroit and lost by a score of 90-76. Margaret Wuebker, playing in the final game of her career, played one of the best games of her career. She scored 24 points, her second-best scoring performance of her career, on 8-of-10 from the field and 8-of-9 from the charity stripe. She also grabbed eight rebounds, had two assists, and had two blocks in just 23 minutes of action.
Findlay
The Oilers are an even 7-7 on the season and are 1-5 in GLIAC play which has them in seventh place in the GLIAC South Division.
Findlay has not allowed a team to shoot 50% or better this season and are holding opponents to a shooting percentage of .403. The 61.4 points per game allowed are good for fifth in the league. Another example to the defensive prowess is the 9.2 steals per game, sixth in the league.
Behind the three point line, the Oilers have been one of the best teams in the league. As a team, Findlay is shooting 39.5%, third highest percentage in the GLIAC. They are led by Lynsey Englebrecht and the recently minted career three point leader at Findlay, Karli Bonar. Englebrecht has made 32 triples this season, second in the league, and Bonar has knocked in 29 threes, fifth in the league.
Saginaw Valley State
The Cardinals enter Thursday's game with an 8-3 record and a 4-1 mark in GLIAC play. They are tied for first atop the North Division of the conference.
Their previous game was an 80-43 loss on the road against #17 Lewis, a team the Oilers defeated 67-62 earlier this season.
The Cardinals rely heavily on two players for nearly half of the team's points.
Senior Emily Wendling, who was last season's GLIAC Player of the Year, D2CCA Midwest Region Player of the Year, and GLIAC Commissioner's Award winner, is leading the team with 16.5 points per game and is second with 6.5 rebounds per game. She has scored less than 10 points in just two games this year (6 vs UC San Diego | 2 vs Lewis); both SVSU losses.
Senior Katelyn Carriere is scoring 15.7 points per game and leads the team with 1.7 three pointers made per game.
Wayne State
The Warriors are currently 5-7 on the year and have a 2-3 mark in GLIAC play and are in sixth place in the GLIAC North division. This season, Wayne St. has played three road games, all of which have ended in losses.
Freshman guard Nastassja Chambers is the leading scorer at 14.6 points per game. She is shooting 52.3% from the floor, ninth in the league. She is joined in scoring by junior Shannon Wilson who is at 14.1 points per game. 42 of her 105 field goal attempts have been from three point territory.
Junior Payton Birchmeier and senior Christina Green are the team's leading rebounders at 5.8 and 5.6 rebounds per game, respectively.
Bombs Away
Senior guard Karli Bonar has made 235 career three pointers at Findlay, the most in school history.
In high school, Bonar set Ohio state records for most three pointers made in a season (110) and most made triples in a career (350).
Junior Lynsey Englebrecht is also a major factor from behind the arc. Last season, she led the GLIAC with a three-point percentage of .524, making 45-of-84 from deep.
This season, she is seventh in the league with a .421 shooting percentage and is second in the league with 32 threes made.
Between Bonar and Englebrecht, they have taken 208 shots, 154 of which have been from behind the arc. Of their 78 made field goals, 61 have been triples.
