Findlay, OH – The University of Findlay women's basketball team lost their first contest of 2017 on Jan. 5, a 76-55 loss to Saginaw Valley State. With the defeat, the Oilers' record falls to 7-8 on the year and 1-6 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play.

For the first time this season, an opponent shot over the 50% mark as Saginaw Valley sunk 33-of-62 shots from the floor. They also won the rebound battle 37-34 and forced more turnovers, 18, than they allowed, 11.

The Oilers shot 21-of-58 from the floor for 36.2% and made 7-of-24 from deep.

Findlay started the game well and got off to a ten point lead with 8:40 to play in the second quarter. From that point on, Saginaw would control the game, especially in the third quarter where they outscored Findlay 27-8.

Junior Lynsey Englebrecht led the Oilers in scoring with 15 points, all of which came via that triple. She made 5-of-8 from deep. She also led the team with three assists.

Sophomore Anna Hintz also reached double-figures with 11 points on 5-of-12 shooting. She led Findlay with six rebounds while sophomore Allie Thobe grabbed four boards.

The Oilers will be back in action as they take on Wayne State University on Saturday, Jan. 7 at 1:00 pm.
