Oilers Travel to Tiffin and #1 Ashland

Game Notes

Findlay will play back-to-back road games for the first time in a month this week as they head to Tiffin to take on the Dragons on Thursday, Jan. 26 and will visit Ashland to play the nation's top ranked Eagles on Saturday, Jan. 28. Game times are 5:30 pm and 1:00 pm, respectively.

Series Information

Tiffin: Findlay and Tiffin have squared off 52 times with the Oilers holding a decisive 42-10 record. The first meeting was in 1984-85 when Findlay won 77-36. The longest win streak in the series was a 14-game streak for the Oilers that ran from 1992 through 2001.

Last year, the teams split the season series with each team earning a win at home. Most recently was a 71-65 win for the Oilers, a game in which Margaret Wuebker and Haley Horstman each scored 17.

Ashland: Findlay and Ashland have played 44 times with the Eagles holding a 27-17 advantage. The teams first met in the 1990-91 season, a 58-42 loss for Findlay. The Oilers last win was a 74-72 victory in the 2014-15 season.

Last season, the Oilers lost both games to Ashland, most recently a 78-67 loss. Horstman scored 15 and Wuebker added 12.

Findlay

After an 84-56 victory over Lake Erie, the Oilers 9-10 overall and 3-8 in GLIAC play.

The Oilers have been led offensively by a quartet of players who are all within a half a point per game of each other. Sophomore Anna Hintz is scoring 8.8 points per game and is also the leading rebounder at 6.5 boards per game.

Junior Lynsey Englebrecht and junior Haley Horstman are scoring 9.3 and 8.8 points per game, respectively. Englbrecht has eight games this season where she has scored 10+ points and has made at least three triples in eight of the team's 18 games. She has at least one three-pointer in all but three games.

Sophomore Christa Puthoff is the leading scorer on the team at 9.3 points per game but has the ability to get hot in a game as she has a pair of 20+ point performances this season. She is averaging 11.5 points per game in her last four games.

Tiffin

The Dragons are in last place in the GLIAC South, losing six straight games and eight of their last nine. As a team, Tiffin attempts the second-most threes per game in the league at 24.4 attempts per game.

Tiffin is led by senior Bre Nauman at 9.4 points per game and sophomore Allie Miller at 8.9 points per game. Nauman is the team's leading rebounder.

Ashland

The Eagles have been ranked #1 in the nation for six straight weeks and in the last two season combined, have won 50 of 52 games.

They are led by junior Laina Snyder who has won GLIAC player of the year five out of a possible ten times this season. A first team all-region, all-GLIAC, and honorable mention all-American a year ago, Snyder has 36 career double-doubles and is seventh on Ashland's all-time scoring list with 1,327. She is second in the league with 18.3 ppg and leads the league with 9.9 rpg, 3.3 stl, and is second with 1.6 blocks.

Snyder is not the only threat as junior Andi Daugherty, also an honorable mention all-American last year, is averaging 14.5 points per game and 4.6 boards. Freshman Jodi Johnson (11.1), junior Julie Worley (10.6), and senior Kelsey Peare (10.4) are all averaging double-figures for the Eagles.

Bombs Away

Senior guard Karli Bonar has made 241 career three pointers at Findlay, the most in school history.

In high school, Bonar set Ohio state records for most three pointers made in a season (110) and most made triples in a career (350).

Junior Lynsey Englebrecht is also a major factor from behind the arc. Last season, she led the GLIAC with a three-point percentage of .524, making 45-of-84 from deep.

This season, she is seventh in the league with a .435 shooting percentage from deep and is second in the league with 47 threes made.

Dominating Inside

This season, Christa Puthoff and Anna Hintz each have a 20+ points / 10+ rebound performance. It's the first time under Jim Wiedie that two different players have had a 20+/10+ game in the same season. Hintz is one of nine players in the league scoring at least 9 points per game and grabbing at least 6 rebounds while Puthoff has a team-high three double-doubles this year.

Race to 70 Points

This season, the Oilers have scored 70 or more points on six occasions. Findlay is 6-0 in those games while going 3-9 in games where they fail to reach 70.
