Oilers Head to ODU/LEC this Week
The Oilers will hit the road for their final road weekend of the season when they travel to Columbus, Ohio to take on the Ohio Dominican Panthers on Thursday, Feb. 9 before going to Painesville, Ohio to play the Lake Erie Storm.

Findlay and Ohio Dominican have met 23 times all-time with the Oilers holding a 15-8 advantage. The teams first met in the 1991-92 season, a game which Findlay lost by a score of 77-69.
On Jan. 19 this season in Croy, the Panthers handled their business against Findlay, winning by a score of 82-51. ODU shot their highest percentage of the season making 35-of-60 (58.3%) from the floor and 10-of-16 (62.5%) from deep.
The Oilers outrebounded the Panthers 32-29 but turned the ball over 24 times and allowed 35 fast break points.
Leading the way for Findlay was sophomore Christa Puthoff. She scored ten points and grabbed five rebounds while junior Elissa Ellerbrock and sophomore Allie Thobe each scored seven. Ellerbrock dished out a career-high five assists in the loss.
The Oilers have seen nothing but success against the Storm and have an 18-2 record against the squad from Painesville. The teams first met in the 1988-89 season when Findlay dominated by a score of 106-54. The Oilers would win the first ten meetings before their first loss in the 2011-12 season. Findlay has won eight of the last nine meetings with Lake Erie.
In their most recent matchup, Findlay won at home by a score of 84-56, the largest margin of victory (28) in a conference game in four years.
The game was back and forth for the first seven minutes with the Oilers holding a 14-12 advantage. They closed the quarter with an 11-0 run to lead 25-12 after one. That momentum continued and Findlay took a 46-22 lead into the break and at one point in the fourth quarter, had a 35-point lead, their largest of the game.
Findlay's defense was as good as it has been all year as they held the Storm to their lowest shooting percentage of the year at 25.9% (15-for-58) while the home team hit 32-of-60 for 53.3% including a season-high 12 made shots from deep. The Oilers dominated on the boards, holding a 48-26 advantage. They also held significant advantages in assists (20-6), second chance points (26-10), and points in the paint (26-14).
Four players scored in double-figures for the Oilers, one of which was senior Karli Bonar who scored a season-high 19 points. Lynsey Englebrecht scored 15 points, Christa Puthoff scored 12 points and had 11 boards, and Haley Horstman scored 10.
Findlay
The Oilers are 11-12 on the season with a 5-10 record in GLIAC play. They have won two straight games.
Sophomore Christa Puthoff leads the team and is averaging 9.8 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. Junior Lynsey Englebrecht is averaging 9.2 points per game and shooting 43.3 percent (55-of-127) from three point range while sophomore Anna Hintz is contributing 9.1 points and 7.0 rebounds per outing.
Ohio Dominican
The Panthers scored a 78-70 victory at Tiffin on Saturday, improving to 16-7 overall on the season. ODU led from the first possession in that contest, making 31-of-74 shots from the field and outscoring Tiffin 38-24 in the paint.
Megan Eyre scored 15 points, one shy of matching a season high, and also had six rebounds. She went 7-of-12 from the field, setting a career high in field goal makes. Lauren Bates chipped in with 14 points and nine rebounds, marking the third time in the last five games that she has grabbed at least nine boards, and Sarah Futscher hit a pair of three-pointers to finish with 12 points.
The Panthers continue to have the second best scoring offense in the GLIAC at 72.5 points per game, and defensively ODU is limiting its opponents to 39.5 percent shooting, the fifth best mark in the conference. After turning Tiffin over 22 times on Saturday, ODU is tied for third in the GLIAC in creating turnovers at 18.3 per game.
Lake Erie
Lake Erie has lost six straight games dating back to Jan. 19 when they lost to Ashland 86-79. Since then, the Storm have only scored more than 60 points on two occasions.
Junior Kayla Gabor the leading scorer in the GLIAC averaging 19.2 points per game. She has scored 422 points this season, 29% of her team's total offensive performance of 1,437 points. The Mentor, Ohio native has ten 20+ point games this season, two of which ended up being 30+ point games including her season high 33 points on Jan. 5 against Ferris State. She is shooting .436 from deep, sixth-best in the GLIAC. Gabor is grabbing 6.6 rebounds per game, second on the team.
Junior Christine Dawson is second on the team, averaging 13.2 points per game. Dawson is the leading rebounder on the team at 6.7 boards per game.
Dominating Inside
This season, Christa Puthoff and Anna Hintz each have a 20+ points / 10+ rebound performance. It's the first time under Jim Wiedie that two different players have had a 20+/10+ game in the same season. Hintz is one of nine players in the league scoring at least 9 points per game and grabbing at least 6 rebounds while Puthoff has a team-high three double-doubles this year. Puthoff and Hintz have combined for seven double-doubles this season; Puthoff with three and Hintz with four.
Race to 70 Points
This season, the Oilers have scored 70 or more points on nine occasions. Findlay is 8-1 in those games while going 3-10 in games where they fail to reach 70.
