Warriors Top Oilers in OT 92-88

The University of Findlay women's basketball team fell in overtime by a score of 92-88 against Wayne State University in their first game of the season on Nov. 11 at the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC)/Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Challenge in Painesville, Ohio.

The Oilers were rolling through three quarters of play as they built a 57-37 lead with 7:20 remaining in the third quarter and held a 14-point lead heading into the final period. The Warriors then out-scored the Oilers by a 27-13 margin in the fourth quarter to force overtime.

In the extra session, the Warriors went on a 6-2 run to start the period before senior guard Lynsey Englebrecht converted a four-point play to tie the game at 86-86 with just under two minutes to play. Wayne State would then go on another 6-2 run to close out the game and complete their comeback victory.

The Oilers shot 50.7 percent (35-of-69) from the floor while the Warriors converted 39 percent (30-of-77) of their field goal attempts. Wayne State also grabbed 20 offensive rebounds and made 23-of-26 (88.5%) attempts from the free throw line in the game.

Junior forward Anna Hintz led Findlay with 22 points and 11 rebounds while senior guard Haley Horstman had 19 points, four rebounds and four assists.

Englebrecht hit five three pointers and finished the game with 18 points while junior guard Elissa Ellerbrock had nine points, six rebounds and three assists.

Shannon Willson led the Warriors with 35 points.

The Oilers will be back in action for day two of the tournament tomorrow and face Tiffin University at 2pm.
