Findlay Hosts Walsh and Malone

The Oilers will look to win their sixth and seventh consecutive games of the season as Canton's two Great Midwest teams, Walsh and Malone, invade Croy on Dec. 7 and Dec. 9, game times at 8:00 pm and 3:00 pm, respectively.

Series Information

Walsh: Findlay owns a 14-7 advantage in the all-time series against Walsh, a series that began in the 1983-84 season. That first meeting came in the second round of the NAIA District 22 Playoffs with Findlay earning a 69-66 victory.

Last season Findlay and Walsh met on two occassions. The Oilers won the first meeting at home, a 76-73 overtime thriller. The Oilers and Cavs then met in the final game of the season in Canton and the Cavaliers earned the victory 61-53.

Malone: Findlay has dominated the all-time series with Malone, earning 23 wins in 26 games against the Pioneers, a series that began in 1991-92, a game which the Oilers won 66-51.

Last season, Findlay traveled to Canton to play the Pioneers and came away with a 75-74 victory in overtime. Malone held a one-point lead with 24 seconds to play and the Oilers cleared out and let Haley Horstman a chance to win the game. Horstman shot and missed with three seconds on the clock and Christa Puthoff was there for the offensive rebound and putback as time expired to give Findlay the road win.

Findlay

The Oilers, tied for first in the conference, have won five games in a row and are now 5-1 overall with a 2-0 record in Great Midwest play.

Findlay is led by the play of junior Anna Hintz who is scoring 17.2 points per game, fifth in the conference, and is also in the top-ten in the league in rebounding at 8.0 rpg.

One of the deadliest three-point shooters in the nation, senior Lynsey Englbrecht is scoring 13.5 points per game, grabbing 4.3 rebounds per game, and dishing out 2.7 assists per game. Englebrecht is making 3.83 threes per game which is fifth in the country. Fellow senior Haley Horstman is scoring 15.5 points per game while junior Jenna Stegmaier is stuffing the stat sheet with 6.5 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game.

Walsh (5-3, 2-0 G-MAC)

After winning their first game of the season against Quincy, the Cavaliers dropped three straight games to fall to 1-3 on the season. Since then, Walsh has rattled off four straight wins, all of which have been by at least 11 points. Those four wins have been by an average of 23.3 points per game including G-MAC wins of 23 points (over Davis & Elkins) and 35 points (over Alderson Broaddus).

The Cavaliers are led in scoring by senior Alex Hochstedler who is scoring 13.3 points per game on the strength of 12 threes made this season. She also ranks second in the league with 30 made free-throws.

Malone (2-2, 1-1 G-MAC)

The Pioneers come into the weekend with a 2-2 record, picking up 12-point wins over Lake Superior St. and Alderson Broaddus and losses against Northwood and Davis & Elkins by ten and three points, respectively.

Last year's Great Midwest Tournament Champions, the Pioneers ended 2016-17 with a 23-7 record and a first round exit in the NCAA Tournament at the hands of No. 1 Ashland (72-40 loss).

Malone is led in scoring at 13.8 points by Baylen Dyrlund who is also the team's second-leading rebounder at 7.3 rpg. Naomi Grandison is second on the team with 11.5 points per game and leads the squad with 7.5 rpg.
