Oilers Stumble at Hillsdale
Hillsdale, Mich. - The University of Findlay women's basketball team traveled to Hillsdale to take on the Chargers on Saturday, Jan. 13 and lost by a score of 75-67. With the loss, the Oilers fall to 13-3 overall and drop from the top of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) standings, now with a record of 10-2. Hillsdale improves to 9-6 on the year with a 7-4 mark in league play.
Despite jumping out to a 9-2 early on, the Oilers trailed by a point through the first quarter of play and later trailed by nine points at the break. That gap was closed to one point at 53-52 through three periods, but Hillsdale would outscore the Orange and Black 22-15 in the final quarter to seal the eight-point victory.
For the first time this season, the Oilers allowed an opponent to shoot over 50% from the floor as the Chargers hit 27-of-51 from the floor (52.9%) including 7-of-17 from deep. They also converted on 14-of-23 attempts from the charity stripe. One of the best rebounding teams in the nation, the Chargers owned the glass, holding a 40-25 advantage on the boards.
Findlay made 27-of-60 from the floor for 45% and made just 4-of-20 (20%) from beyond the arc, their lowest percentage from deep in a game this season.
Junior Anna Hintz led all scorers with a 23-point performance on 10-of-14 from the field. She added five rebounds and two steals in the loss. No other player for Findlay reached double figures.
Senior Lynsey Englebrecht chipped in nine points, two rebounds, and there assists while senior Haley Horstman and junior Christa Puthoff each scored seven points. Horstman snagged four reounds.
Junior Elissa Ellerbrock was the team's leader on the glass, picking up seven boards to go along with four points.
Findlay will be back on the road next Saturday, Jan. 20 when they head to Ohio Valley to take on the Fighting Scots.
