Findlay Takes Care of Business Against Fighting Scots
Vienna, W. Va. – The University of Findlay women's basketball team took on the Ohio Valley Fighting Scots on Saturday, Jan. 20 on the road and came away with a 69-50 victory. Remaining in first place in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) after the win, the Oilers record improved to 14-3 overall with an 11-2 mark in league play while the Fighting Scots remain winless at 0-15 with an 0-11 mark in the G-MAC.
Findlay trailed for the first 3:30 of the game but used a 7-0 run at the end of the first quarter to take a lead that would not be relinquished, eventually building up a game-high 20-point lead with 6:25 left in the third quarter.
The Oilers made 24-of-57 (42.1%) from the field while Ohio Valley hit just 15-of-56 (26.8%). Neither team shot well from deep as they combined to make just ten threes on 38 attempts.
Findlay owned the glass as they grabbed 46 rebounds compared to just 35 for the Fighting Scots. Despite committing three more turnovers (23-20), the Oilers had more points off turnovers, holding a 21-17 advantage in that category.
Four players reached double figures for first place Findlay, led by senior Lynsey Englebrecht. She hit four three-pointers en route to an 18-point performance. She also tied a career-high with four steals.
Juniors Anna Hintz and Jenna Stegmaier each contributed 11 points and combined for 18 rebounds. Stegmaier, who picks up her third double-double of the year, finished with a game-high 11 rebounds to go along with a new career-high, five steals.
Senior Haley Horstman chipped in ten points and added four assists to help lead the Oilers to victory while junior Ellisa Ellerbrock scored seven points, seven rebounds, and two blocks. Fellow junior Christa Puthoff had seven points and three rebounds.
Findlay finally returns home on Thursday, Jan. 25 when they play Trevecca Nazarene. That game is set to tip off at 8:00 pm.
