Late Run Dooms Oilers Against Trevecca Nazarene
Findlay, Ohio – The University of Findlay women's basketball team dropped their rematch with the Trevecca Nazarene Trojans on Thursday, Jan. 25 in Croy Gymnasium. Nearly two months ago the teams met in Nashville with Findlay coming home having earned a 15-point victory, but today the Trojans flipped the script as they earned a 15-point road win of their own, 78-63. With the loss, Findlay's first loss of the season to a team with a losing record, the Oilers drop into second place in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) as they now have a record of 14-4 overall with an 11-3 mark in league play. Trevecca improves their record to 8-12 overall and move up to 6-8 in the G-MAC.
Findlay's only lead of the game was by two points and came in the beginning stages of the contest when the Orange and Black led 6-4. However, an 8-0 run by the Trojans midway through the second quarter would help the team from the Music City take an eight point lead into the break at 33-25.
The Oilers outscored the Trojans 22-18 in the third quarter to cut the visiting team's lead to just four points at 51-47. Three minutes into the final period, junior Anna Hintz knocked in a three-pointer to pull Findlay to within one point. Trailing 57-56, Findlay was outscored 21-7 over the final seven minutes of action to end the game.
The Trojans shot a blistering 59.6% (31-of-52) from the floor which included a 71.4% (10-of-14) effort in the final quarter. The home team made just 22-of-58 for 37.9% and made 7-of-22 from deep for 31.8%. Rebounds were even at 31 apiece while Trevecca dominated with 17 assists to just nine for Findlay.
Junior Anna Hintz led the way for the Oilers, scoring 16 points, seven of which came from the charity stripe. She also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. Senior Lynsey Englebrecht chipped in 13 points on 4-of-14 from the field, 3-of-11 from deep, and tied a career-high with four steals.
Junior Christa Puthoff also reached double-figures with a 12-point performance off the pine to go along with four rebounds while junior starter Jenna Stegmaier scored nine points and also had four rebounds.
Trevecca's Callie Hackett, a transfer from Division I Mercer University, wowed spectators with a career-high 31 points on 10-of-12 shooting including 4-of-6 from beyond the arc. She also had six assists and three steals.
