Findlay Drops Nail-Biter at Cedarville

Cedarville, Ohio - The University of Findlay women's basketball team lost their first game of the 2018-19 campaign on Saturday, Dec. 1 at Cedarville by a score of 74-70. With the loss, the Oilers fall to 3-1 on the year with a 1-1 mark in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play while the Yellow Jackets, last season's G-MAC regular season champion, improves to 5-1 and 2-0 in the league.

Findlay scored the first seven points of the game but ultimately trailed 22-19 through the first frame. The Oilers regained the lead on the first basket of the second half and built that lead to five at 45-40 four minutes into the third. From that point, Cedarville went on a 10-0 run to regain the lead. The game would be tied one more time after that, but the Yellow Jackets hit enough shots late to hold the lead and seal the victory.

The Oilers' top performer was senior Anna Hintz who scored a game-high 21 points and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds. She made 7-of-14 from the floor and hit 6-of-9 from the charity stripe. It is the first game this season that Hintz failed to record a double-double.

Senior Elissa Ellerbrock also scored in double-figures as she finished with 16 points on 5-of-9 from the floor and a perfect 5-of-5 from the free throw line. She added two rebounds and two assists, as well.

Senior Jenna Stegmaier scored eight points and had six rebounds while senior Allie Thobe scored eight points, grabbed four rebounds, and had three assists.

Cedarville sharpshooter Baylee Bennett scored 17 to lead the Yellow Jackets while Regina Hochstetler and Cameron Peek each scored 12. Bennett hit five shots from deep to lead Cedarville.

The Yellow Jackets shots 51% from the field while the Oilers connected on 47%. Both teams shot well from deep as Findlay made 46.7% and Cedarville made 45.8% from three-point land. 

Findlay returns home on Thursday, Dec. 6 when they take on Walsh University at 5:30 pm.
