Findlay Wins Defensive Battle at Davis & Elkins

Elkins, W. Va. - The University of Findlay women's basketball team earned a win in a low-scoring affair on January, 3 at Davis & Elkins. Both teams combined for just 96 points in a 50-46 victory for the Oilers. With the win, Findlay improves their record to 9-3 on the year and 5-2 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play while the Senators fall to 3-8 and 2-4 in the league. The Oilers' 50 points are the least amount of points scored in victory in program history.

Findlay held a three-point lead after the first ten minutes of action but D&E battled back to tie the game 28-28 at the break. The Oilers allowed just two points in the third quarter of action, but managed just six points of their own to take a 34-30 lead into the final frame. The Oilers' lead ballooned to eight points at 44-36 with four-and-a-half minutes to play but over the next three minutes the Senators found themselves down two points at 48-46. Anna Hintz nailed a pair of free throws with four seconds on the clock to ice the game.

Hintz, along with senior Christa Puthoff, led Findlay in scoring with 12 points each. Hintz snagged eight rebounds while Puthoff had seven.

Also with seven rebounds was senior Elissa Ellerbrock, who added five points as well.

Senior Jenna Stegmaier had a solid all-around effort, scoring eight points, grabbing four rebounds, and dishing out four assists. She also had three steals.

Off the bench, freshman Sydney Kin scored six points on two-of-two from the floor and two-of-two from the charity stripe.

Findlay is back in action on Saturday when they take on Alderson Broaddus in another G-MAC contest. That game will tip at 2:00pm.
