Career-High by Ellerbrock Leads Oilers Past Battlers
Philippi, W. Va. - The University of Findlay women's basketball team escaped with another road win on Saturday, Jan. 5 against Alderson Broaddus to improve their record to 10-3 overall with a 6-2 record in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play. A big fourth quarter was key to giving Findlay the 63-58 victory against the Battlers who fall to 3-7 on the year and 3-4 in the league.
The contest was back-and-forth for the first 20 minutes of action as the Oilers took a 23-22 lead into the locker rooms. In the third, the Battlers nailed 67% of their shots from the field (10-of-15) including four triples and outscored the Oilers 26-15 to take a ten-point lead heading into the final frame.
Findlay answered with as dominant a quarter as they have had all season. The Oilers erased the deficit with a 15-5 run in just over five minutes to tie the game at 53 and ultimately outscored AB 25-10 in the quarter. In the fourth, the Findlay connected on 80% (8-of-10) of their shots from the field, including 83% (5-of-6) from deep, and a perfect 4-for-4 performance from the charity stripe.
In the game, Findlay made 24-of-58 (41%) from the floor and made nine triples while Alderson Broaddus made 23-of-54 (43%) which included eight shots from deep. Both teams secured 34 rebounds while the Oilers finished with more assists (18-to-13).
Senior Elissa Ellerbrock had a game to remember as she poured in a career-high 20 points on 7-of-13 from the floor. She also set a new career mark in three-pointers made, canning four shots from beyond the arc. Ellerbrock added two rebounds, two assists, a steal, and a block to her stat line.
Senior forwards Anna Hintz and Christa Puthoff each netted 14 points, a season-high for Puthoff. Hintz snagged ten rebounds giving her a seventh double-double of the year and 22nd of her career while Puthoff grabbed five boards. Also collecting five rebounds was senior Allie Thobe who, despite not scoring in the contest, dished out five assists.
Senior Jenna Stegmaier tied a career-high with seven assists and scored nine points in the game. She also had three rebounds and three steals.
Findlay returns home this coming weekend when they host Ohio Dominican on Thursday, Jan. 10 at 5:30 pm and Ohio Valley on Saturday, Jan. 12 at 1:00 pm.
