Oilers Hold Off Hillsdale | Win 69-64

The University of Findlay women's basketball team held off Hillsdale College, winning 69-64 on Jan. 19 in the Croy Physical Education Center. The victory gives the Oilers a 12-4 record on the season with an 8-3 mark in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC).

The Oilers led 57-46 with one minute to play in the third quarter before the Chargers went on a 15-3 run to take a 61-60 lead with just over four minutes remaining in the game. The Oilers then regained the lead down the stretch at the free throw line for their second straight victory at home.

The Oilers only shot 39.1 percent (25-of-64) from the floor, but held a 13-2 advantage in fast break points during the game. The Chargers meanwhile made 42.6 percent (26-of-61) of their shot attempts, but turned the ball over 15 times.

Senior guard Elissa Ellerbrock led the way with 14 points while senior guard Allie Thobe had 12 points, eight rebounds, five assists and two steals. Her eight rebounds tied her career-high.

Senior forward Anna Hintz finished with eight points and eight rebounds while senior guard Jenna Stegmaier had nine points and four boards.

The Chargers were led by Makenna Ott's 17 points.

The Oilers will be back in action again on Jan. 24 when they head to Nashville, Tenn. to battle Trevecca Nazarene University at 6:30 p.m.
