Schweiger Scores Career High in Oilers Win Over Storm

Findlay, Ohio – The University of Findlay women's basketball team played their first home game in 44 days on Thursday, Jan. 2 in Croy Gymnasium against Lake Erie College. Despite trailing in the first quarter, the Oilers flexed their muscle in the second quarter and ultimately came away with the 82-74 victory to improve to 7-7 on the year and 3-1 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play. The Storm fall to 5-10 on the year and drop to 2-3 in the league.

A 10-to-2 run for Lake Erie in the middle of the first quarter put the visiting team ahead 18-10 just six minutes into play. The Storm would eventually take a five-point lead into the second quarter. The Oilers would outscore Lake Erie 20-10 in the second quarter. Findlay would not trail again, leading to their third conference win of the season.

Findlay shot the ball well in the game, making 26-of-53 (.491) from the floor including 3-of-11 (.273) from deep. The Storm nearly matched the Oilers shooting, making 41% of their shots from the floor and draining ten shots from deep.

A big difference in the game came at the charity stripe where the Oilers made 27-of-30 for 90% while the Storm connected on just 8-of-10.

The Storm outrebounded Findlay 39-to-29 but committed nine more turnovers. The Oilers also held an advantage in the paint, outscoring the Storm 46-to-32 from in close.

Sophomore Sydney Kin continued what has been a solid sophomore season, scoring 21 points on 8-of-13 from the floor. She also snagged six rebounds and had three steals.

Fellow sophomore Amber Schweiger scored a career-high 19 points in the win and stuffed the stat sheet with four assists, four steals, and three rebounds. She nailed 7-of-8 from the free throw line, as well.

Senior guard Lauren Ruth poured in a season-high 14 points in the game and found her stroke from deep, making 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. She also had a pair of steals in the game while sophomore Bridget Landin led the team with five steals. Landin also had six points, four rebounds, and two assists.

Sophomore Paige Bellman contributed eight points and grabbed six boards in the victory.

The Storm were led by senior guard Josie Chaddock who scored a game-high 27 points that included five shots from downtown. Breanna Bauer scored 12 points while Lainey Billing had ten points and ten boards.

Findlay is back on the court on Saturday, January 4 when they will take on Ursuline at 1:00 pm.
