Junior Michele Schambs led the UF women's golf team to a second place finish at the Walsh Invitational, which concluded play on Monday, April 14 at the Glenmoor Country Club in Canton, Ohio.

Schambs, playing in her first tournament since early March after recovering from an injury, finished first at the event with a two-round score of 153.

The Chillicothe, Ohio native had to go one extra hole to win the tournament, which was her first career victory. She carded an 80 in the opening round on Sunday and then came back with a one-over par score of 73 in the second round to put her in a three-way tie for first place when the tournament came to a conclusion. She then fired a par during the first playoff hole while Walsh's Jenny Tsangeos and Ferris State's Ashley Swanson both bogeyed.

The Oilers, who shot a 642 (330, 312) at the event, also received a standout performance from sophomore Kasey Petty.

Petty finished in a tie for fifth place at the tournament after entering the clubhouse with a 156 (82, 74).

Senior Brooke Albers tied for 18th with a 163 (85, 78) while Taylor Tweed (83, 88 – 171) placed 35th.

Freshman Shelby Warner (88, 87 – 175) and Emily Mock (105, 96 – 201) also competed for Findlay at the event.

The Oilers will now prepare for the 2014 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championship, which is slated for April 24-25 at the Winding Hollow Golf Course in New Albany, Ohio.
