Oilers in 4th, Albers in 2nd at Regional

The University of Findlay women's golf team is currently in fourth place at the NCAA Division II Super Region 1 Tournament, which is being held at the Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville, Ind.

The Oilers fired a 314 on the second day of competition, which concluded on May 5, and are one stroke behind Ferris State for third place. The top three teams at the end of the third and final round will advance to the 2014 NCAA Division II National Championship, which is slated to be held on May 14-17 at the Rock Barn Golf and Spa in Canover, N.C.

The Oilers have a two-round score of 633 (319, 314) and are chasing their first trip to the national championship. Ferris State (319, 313 – 632) and Indianapolis (310, 311 – 621) are within striking distance for the Oilers tomorrow.

Brooke Albers is leading the team at the national championship and is in a tie for second overall.  Albers, who qualified for the national championship last season as an individual, shot a one-over par score of 73 on Monday and has a two-round score of 150 (77, 73) so far.

Kasey Petty is tied for 18th with a 159 (78, 81) while Michele Schambs (83, 79 – 162) and Shelby Warner (81, 81 – 162) are tied for 25th.

Hannah Schneider is tied for 44th with a 173 (87, 86).

The tournament will end tomorrow.
