The University of Findlay women's golf team qualified for the 2014 NCAA Division II National Championship for the first time in school history after taking third place at the Super Region 1 Tournament, which concluded on May 6.

The Oilers shot a 54-hole school record score of 949 (319, 314, 316) at the tournament, which was held at the Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville, Ind.

Findlay came into the third and final round of competition in fourth place and needed a big day on the links to reach the national championship as the top-3 teams from each region are invited.  Although no Findlay golfer recorded a birdie on the day, the Oilers played steady and earned the right to compete for the 2014 NCAA Division II National Championship on May 14-17 at the Rock Barn Golf and Spa in Canover, N.C.

Senior Brooke Albers, who qualified for the national championship as an individual during the 2011-12 campaign, paced the Oilers with a three round score of 228.  Her score of 228 is the third lowest 54-hole score in school history.

Albers shot a 77 during the first round of competition and then came back with a 1-over par score of 73 in the second. She then closed the tournament with a 78 to finish in third place at the event.

Junior Michele Schambs ended up in a tie for 13th after carding a 238 (83, 79, 76 – 238) while sophomore Kasey Petty finished 15th with a 239 (78, 81, 80).

Schambs score of 76 on Tuesday was the lowest score for a Findlay player on the day.

Freshman Shelby Warner finished in a tie for 24th after carding a 244 (81, 81, 82) while sophomore Hannah Schneider placed 47th with a 266 (87, 86, 93).

Indianapolis and Grand Valley State tied for the regional championship as both teams carded a 935.  Both teams will advance with Findlay to the national championship.
