Oilers Golf Remains in 6th at National Championship

The University of Findlay women's golf team completed the second day of the 2014 NCAA Division II National Championship on May 15 at the Rock Barn Golf and Spa in Canover, N.C.

The Oilers carded a 309 for the second consecutive day and are in sixth place with a 36-hole score of 618.

Junior Michele Schambs shot a 79 on Thursday and now has a two-round score of 151 (72, 79), which is good enough for 22nd place at the tournament.  She had two birdies and nine birdies during the second round.

Sophomore Kasey Petty fired a 4-over par score of 75 during the second round and is currently in a tie for 27th with a 152 (77, 75).  Petty turned in four birdies during the round on Thursday and mixed in six pars.

Freshman Shelby Warner was also 4-over par today for the Oilers as she fired four birdies and seven pars for her 75.  She is in a tie for 32nd at the championship with a 153 (78, 75).

Senior Brooke Albers posted an 80 during the second round, which was two strokes lower than her 82 yesterday.  She is currently tied for 56th with a 162 (82, 80).

Sophomore Hannah Schneider also improved on her day one score by firing an 84. She is in 70th place with a 170 (86, 84) so far.

Lynn University is leading the tournament with a two-round score of 591 (294, 297) while Barry University is in second with a 594 (305, 289).

The Oilers continue to be the highest ranked team from the East Region in the championship as they are three strokes better than the University of Indianapolis and five ahead of Grand Valley State University.

Third round action will begin tomorrow and the conclusion of the championship event will take place on Saturday.
