Oilers Place 7th at NCAA DII National Championship

The University of Findlay women's golf team completed the 2014 NCAA Division II National Championship in seventh place with a school record breaking 72-hole score of 1,223 (309, 309, 307, 298) on May 17 at the Rock Barn Golf and Spa in Canover, N.C.

The Oilers fired a school record 298 during the final round of competition and were led by sophomore Kasey Petty, who finished the tournament in a tie for 12th place with a school record breaking 72-hole score of 298 (77, 75, 74, 72).

Petty came through with a 1-over par score of 72 in the final round, which included two birdies and 13 pars.  Her big day enabled the Oilers to get under 300 strokes as a team for the first time in school history.

Freshman Shelby Warner ended her first season at the collegiate level with a 2-over par score of 73, which included four birdies. She ended the tournament in a tie for 36th with a four-day score of 307 (78, 75, 81, 73).

Junior Michele Schambs posted an 80 on the final day and ended the tournament in a tie for 33rd with a 306.  Schambs shot a 1-over par score of 72 in the opening round before firing a 79, 75 and 80 on the final three days of the tournament for her 72-hole score.

Senior Brooke Albers, who was named all-East Region earlier in the week, ended her career with a 4-over par score of 75 on Saturday. She finished in a tie for 49th with a 314 (82, 80, 77, 75), shooting lower scores in each of the rounds during the tournament.

Sophomore Hannah Schneider fired a season-low 78 on the final day and ended the tournament with a score of 335 (86, 84, 87, 78), which was good for 68th at the event.

Lynn University won their second straight NCAA Division II National Championship with a 72-hole score of 1,164 (294, 297, 291, 282). They took the crown by shooting a two-under par score of 282 on Saturday and were led by Louise Manalo, who won the individual title with a 3-over par score of 287 (72, 73, 74, 68).
