Petty, Oilers Win Lake State Invitational

Junior Kasey Petty and the Oilers women's golf team won the Lake Superior State Invitational, which concluded on Sep. 16 at the Wild Bluff Golf Course in Brimley, Mich.

Petty led the Oilers, who claimed the title with a 642 (325, 317), with a first place finish at the event by shooting a 154. Petty fired an 82 in the opening round and then came back with an even-par score of 72 to capture medalist honors.

Sophomore Shelby Warner and senior Michele Schambs also had a great tournament as they finished second and third, respectively, in the invitational.  Warner carded a 157 (74, 83) while Schambs posted a 159 (81, 78).

Junior Hannah Schneider also secured a top-10 finish by placing ninth with a 174 (90, 84) while freshman Kelsey Koesters took 11th with a 175 (88, 87).

The Oilers also had a second team competing at the event and they took fifth with a 724 (352, 372).  The group was led by sophomore Taylor Tweed and freshman Courtney Piatt, who each tied for 15th with a 178 (78, 91).

Freshman Haley Gray also secured a top-20 placing by taking 20th with a 183 (83, 100).

Freshman Erin Scoby (95, 99 – 194) and senior Emily Mock (111, 91 – 202) also competed for Findlay at the event.

The Oilers will be back in action again on Sep. 21-22 at the Indianapolis Invitational. The tournament will be held at the Heartland Crossing Golf Links in Camby, Ind.
